Retail wow update error

When I try updating retail wow I get the error “We’re having a problem transferring data” My connection is fine. I’ve done all the suggested troubleshooting on Blizzards troubleshooting page. No other Wow versions are having an issue. It’s only affecting Retail WOW. I can update and play any other blizzard game as well.

I am having the same issue.

Having the same issue here. Internet connection is fine, no proxies being used. Tried uninstalling the game, and reinstalling, can’t even reinstall due to issue. Tried on my laptop (that also already has the game installed), same issue. Only affecting WoW, able to run/update other Battle.net games with no issue. Also tried steps (including Advanced Troubleshooting steps) from this article: https://us.battle.net/support/en/article/28110.

Also having this issue! I read a VPN can get it to download but haven’t tried it yet

Same here….

I’m getting same issue. Tried all the suggested fixes listed at BLZBNTAGT000008A4 and nothing helped. Any other suggestions?

I’m having the same issue. Sometimes a reboot helps, sometimes it makes no difference. Sometimes just waiting a minute and clicking “update” again works. It seems to be completely random. I’m on a stable, wired internet connection so I have no clue what’s happening. Classic updates just fine, Hearthstone updates just fine, so it cannot be the internet.

Further edit: I’m on Windows 11, latest updates.

I’m having the same issue as of this evening. I closed WoW, updated some addons with the Curse launcher, and then Battle.net showed the Update button for WoW. I clicked Update but keep getting error BLZBNTAGT000008A4. My internet connection is fine.

Here’s what I’ve tried:

  • Restarting Battle.net (after waiting for agent.exe to close)
  • Restarting my PC
  • Scan and Repair
  • Rename game folder, restart Battle.net, click Install, same error
  • Downgrade Battle.net beta to the standard version
  • Upgrade the standard version back to the beta

I can’t play the game at all, unfortunately.

-edit-
The error doesn’t appear when I update or install other games from Battle.net. Only WoW is impacted.

Same here, cant play the game at all.

Yo tech support, its been over 24 hours and i still cant play because of this. I have uninstalled everything and now i cant even reinstall because of it. Get it together and fix it!

This forum is a player-to-player troubleshooting area. If something on your network is blocking the content delivery network that Blizzard uses, they can’t change that.

Which ISP are you using? Which city? Which type of internet?

It’s only wow retail thats affected. No other wow versions or blizzard games are being affected.

Same issue here Dec 15, 2024. Tried all steps outlined in the Troubleshoot. Also tried with and without VPN via Nord VPN.

Nothing works

Same error here. Just started a 24 hours ago. Affects retail TWW only! The Classic, Live Classic, Cataclysm Classic and PTR versions are not affected. On MacOS 15.1.1. Fixed temporarily by deleting /Users/Shared/Battle.net Folder and reinstalling battlement App. Error recurred after quitting game.

This is actually not a connectivity issue. All other content and all other Blizzard games work fine, including Beta and PTR versions of WOW

On MacOS 15.1.1.

Interesting, I’m on Windows 11 and having the same issue. My wife’s PC is almost identical to mine and she is not having the issue.

If this has been going on for so long I don’t get why there isn’t a fix yet. I get error:

Failed to download files from Battle.net.

BLZBNTAGT000008A4

I go through the checklist, restarted my computer plenty of times, i’ve uninstalled but can’t reinstall. Just getting back into WoW and can’t even play because of this.

I was having the same issue and found this from 2022. It fixed the issue. https://us.forums.blizzard.com/en/heroes/t/error-blzbntagt000008a4/57625

The content delivery network for updates isn’t in the same place as the game servers. Have you tried downloading a different game Blizzard creates? This could potentially be a test, but I’m not sure if other games in their portfolio are delivered from yet another different network.
