Retail Community

I’m telling you in general, the FFXIV as well as other games like ESO and GW2 communities are much more welcoming.

Don’t be mad at me for being honest. I’m not saying those games don’t have their d-bags too, they do but it’s definitely not as prevalent as in retail and not by as small margin.

I’ve been playing the game for 16 years, and it doesn’t upset me but it is why many have left retail for other games. So if you want the game to thrive and grow people need to be nicer. End of story.

I mean, TESO is literally a solo player game that has access to PvP and PvE multiplayer content.

You dont need to interact with anyone in there.

And for GW2 – idk, play Mesmer in PvP for some extended period of time?

Classic? You mean the community where half the population won’t talk to you unless you’re an omega-sweaty try hard parser with full epics to do a normal wrath dungeon?
Or FF14, whose new player chat channels are often filled with irrelevant talk or outright make fun of new players asking questions ?
Those communities are very toxic too.

The first steps of FF14:

  1. Leave novice chat
  2. Ignore anything a BK crown mentor says

isnt FF14 players held at gunpoint by the code of conduct so much so that bringing up the fact youre running a 3rd party addon or commenting anther players damage is low viable for retaliation from the dev team?

this scenario doesn’t seem like the community’s nice more so that they are having their arm bent to fake nice.

I will pretty much forever stand on the basis that cross realm, killed the community. it led us to this place where people are not held to any accountability for their behavior, due to the likelihood of never seeing you again. Due to this realization, it gives people keyboard warrior energy, where they do and say what they want --if they say anything because cross realm, plus LFG/LFD/LFR have molded people in a way that no longer requires you to communicate with others, and provides a means in which you will not be punished if you act out aside from a risk of kick. whereas before everyone learned the names of eachother in trade/general, etc. and bad behavior caught on and led to you not being brought to anything outside of your own guild --if you had enough pull to get brought.
i agree though, the community in game for the most part is completely dead, at least outside of active guilds, and because of the not so nurturing molding the game has chose to lead, it will very likely never come back. I play retail for the new content, and play classic for a better community / easier mechanics–simpler times where the game overall was more enjoyable. now everyone expects you watch video guides for literally everything instead of being kind and patient and teaching on the spot.

Lol i don’t get mad at people online. Ok, humor me. Ill try FF14 if you give me 5 good reasons including a barrier to entry that doesn’t involve me initially paying to try, and doesn’t include “good community”.

realistically that doesn’t matter anymore. even if they were to nix cross realm today - ppl would just regress into being amorphous blobs on megaservers just like in current classic

I think FF14 does this very well. They add a bean sprout to indicate the player is relatively new or has been away for a while. I think if WoW incorporated something like that, that’d be a big help.

They do. There is a murloc icon overhead new players and a mentor chat.

  1. manderville questline
  2. reaper
  3. golden saucer
  4. better quality transmog
  5. housing

1-wut?
2-wut?
3- i remember this is FF7, don’t know much else how that translates to FF14
4-subjective though, some might like wow armor better.
5-never really cared about homes in an mmo.

Maybe they should take it a step further because personally I never knew that was a thing. I don’t recall ever seeing a murloc icon, but could be im completely oblivious to that to lol.

Wouldn’t be the first time!

The thing is you have to be a mentor to see the icon, so its weird.

  1. funny questline that carries over between expacs

  2. best class in the game

Idk dude. Its not enough. The only reason i even play wow is because of the combat, and because the art team, and community when its good. Sorry but to me FF14 has always been a poser, that only recently had more success because Wow made the worst decision of an expansion in Shadowlands. In which case, FF may have been better than SL, but Wow looks like its returning to what it should have been in DF. I imagine most who migrated will return.

This seems to be the root cause of the issue, would you agree?

I cant think of a reason why it should be restricted to just mentors.

The FFXIV community is far from “all good”, but it is notably better. The main difference? Real community moderators and GMs make decisions on player behaviors, rather than relying on automated systems. The community as a whole has higher standards, something this community sorely misses.

FF14 is a collection of softies thats why

Random question: Which dungeon?

I ask because none of the Shadowlands dungeons available at launch are currently in the M+ rotation and I am kind of weirded out by elitists running non-Tazavesh dungeons M0 at this point of the expansion (or any dungeon, come on, it’s a m0. And it’s not that I doubt your story, I believe it actually. More along the lines of: you ran into some world-class clownshow, and it kind of lines up with my theory that there’s a chunk of the playerbase that loves to be extra elitist in content that is, for all intents and purposes, a cakewalk, especially now)

Can you elaborate? For example, if I come across an idiot in wow. I have the ability to wipe that player out of existence. In FF14, there’s people that will determine if the player is to be ignored?
