well since many specs do in excess of 3k+ dps on a ret probally not a hard delta to cover unless fire is like Crack compared to arcane and i mean its gotta be SS teir.

Arcane will outperform fire on a handful of encounters next phase already even at full bis, and fire will only start to pull ahead on the rest once fully geared. In other words the choice between the two specs will mostly be player preference with no meaningful dps impact delta on raid overall.
So its pretty easy to just have one stay arcane.
You seem confident about that. Im under thr impression that especially with the ilvl changes specs will scale off sooner. Fire is already very close to arcane wdym
look in your dm’s I already sent you a wowsim graph that projects forecasted dps.

I think the ‘change to holy or prot’ comment needs to be squashed here - it would be fantastic if people actually understood what they’re saying.
Here’s what you’re actually saying.
Change guilds, change raids, look for one that doesn’t already have a Paladin tank, or Paladin healer. It doesn’t matter that you’ve been in your guild since 2004. That, or take a break until ICC and hope your guild just wants to give you a shadowmourne even though you’ve been gone for 8 months.
You’re all being intentionally and intellectually dishonest. The nostalgic memory of Ret in WotLK for P1-P3 has been destroyed due to the 3.3.5 patch. In other expansions, we had late patches where classes were mostly tuned for the better for earlier phases. This is the opposite.
I have zero confidence that the Dev team will be able to put energy into resolving this for the community’s sake. At the moment I’m trying to decide what the game is going to look like (or not) for me for the foreseeable future.

the 3 people they got on classic might have their hands full buffing ilvl for ulduar>.> still think that’s a bad idea btw. everyone’s basically saying there shouldn’t be changes but wotlk has so many changes its nuts.
I’m in the same boat, my sweaty guild doesnt need another prot or holy… My only choice for ulduar is to main swap rogue or lose the spot. Maybe my dedication to the team in gearing up an alt will convince them to prio me shadowmourne later when i swap back… But i doubt it since warriors will pump by then

I don’t want to NOT play ret but i dont want to be the anchor holding the ship back. hey guys I parsed a 99! cool bro you parsed a rogue 44 longest phase in the game and we get to have a good taste of the bitter before we get the sweet.
Exceedingly confident in it. Damage profiles are what they are, and even in togc heroic gear (higher ilvl than anything that is being prepped for ulduar) arcane still pulls slightly ahead of fire on sub 200 second st. Which ulduar will have a few of.

But does it account for possible mana issues? I suppose 200s isnt terribly long but if fights are hard and innervates are going to healers…

Yes it accounts for self sustain.
I’m gonna agree with OP, from a no changes perspective I’m cool with baking in tier 10 set bonus for ret, so long as they eat a PvP nerf.
Holy paladins need to have sacred cleansing removed as well, while we’re at it.
what do you think is a fair pvp nerf considering we’ve already got 2 classes that can break bubble and numerous that can dispell wings/bop etc in so far as a RANKED arena setting Im not sure Rets are better than high B teir. I will admit we fair well in battlegrounds.
Some kind of ret sacred shield nerf most likely.
does it help if I tell you in catalysm rets lose the ability to dispell themselves but not others they gain holy power so they can’t instant flash of light spam themselves anymore and if you use the Holy Power heal you can kiss a fat Templars Verdict goodbye.
