In classic GD fashion it feels like half the people in this thread didn’t even read what OP was asking for.
He’s not asking for the word to be banned. He’s asking for the word to be added to the profanity filter.
He’s not asking/trying to stop people from using the word. He’s just asking for a personal solution to allow him and his family to not have to see the word.
So in short you can still say the word, he just wants an in-game method to block that word so he and his family don’t have to see it.
That’s extremely reasonable, and I’m really confused at all the push back from people in this thread to it.
Anyone who is against this is actually just troll. I would be extremely surprised if anyone against it even has the chat filter on in the first place. In fact, I’m positive that they didn’t even know that it wasn’t on the filter. It affects you in no way if a word is added to the optional chat filter.
Of course you’re never going to be able to completely omit a word from your life but blizzard already has a tool in place for people to hide words that make them feel uncomfortable. Why would the r word not fall under that category?
It’s distressing to witness how certain people behaves in the game and quite often you come across them unfortunately.
Don’t feed their attention, it is what they’re looking for to satisfy their ego and laughter all while pinning down you and others that finds the “content” disturbing.
I am not certain to which measurements can Blizz do to filter certain words or do much considering we live in an age where this sort of discrimination still happens…yet also the awareness of it is supported by many amazing individuals that understands the ordeal of its struggles.
The world is still going to have those inconsistencies and we cannot shut down everyone. Rather we should let it grow on us stronger while still maintaining a tough skin against that persistent adversary.
It’s not my place to agree nor disagree, just bear in mind as you cannot shut off everyone else, you also have & will have amazing supports.
PS: In a way I can relate. I have Dyslexia & OCD. Its a pain in the butt but still living life
Any word can be offensive if you’re looking to be offended. Maybe we should just ban words in general. Especially since you’re such a “cool dude”. See, I just made “cool dude” offensive. We should add those to the filters too.
I’m retarded, and I use the word often. Stop trying to be a victim. I’ve gone to job interviews where my Mom introduced me as special, and for some reason thought that I wouldn’t notice.

In my conversations with members in the truck manufacturing community, the word is sometimes used in conjunction with brakes or slowing. People there are mature enough that nobody giggles or laughs when it is used.
…just pointing out that insults aren’t the only reason that word is used.
