Does your sense of enjoyment come specifically from calling others derogatory terms? If so, why is that?
Words are not actions. Some people are all bark with no bite.
A person that says horrible things is usually a horrible person, or at least a person I want to add to my ignore list.
Hmm, I assume the OP is going to use one of those previously mentioned addons. I’d have no problem if Blizz added it to the filter list either. Doesn’t affect me because I don’t use the filter.
Don’t let that stop you from toughing up yer kids. I think the world would be better off if more people could add some vocabulary resistance, instead of demanding change for the world.
Good luck to you.
I feel many have missed the OP’s request. He just wants to add the word to the optional filter. He isn’t asking to ban the word itself.
This passes muster to me as I am avidly opposed to banning words as that is the height of stupidity. Words allow us to communicate, it is a fundamental discriminator between us and animals. We can choose who to associate with in real life so that solves that. In game, if language twists ones knickers, there is always the optional language filter should you require it. I really don’t see an issue here as most of us replying very clearly are not using the filter in game, nor would we ever. Who does it hurt to let them filter away the language to create a more comfortable, private, space?
honestly, i’m not sorry for you, or your niece. this is the internet. this is wow. there is toxic people all over the place, and you should of at least made it known to your niece that she might run into these people while playing the game. we all do. if you made it known to her that this might happen, im sure she most likely wouldnt of bothered to play and just moved onto something else. you need to know that these things will happen, and this is the “norm” for some people.
Ironically the R word is mostly used against perfectly normal people to suggest they are acting stupid.
As long as I can still use Reeeeeee
Eh, just have to get used to it - every year, more victims of failed parenting strategies reach adulthood who are so weak they can’t even control their emotions when they see a word they don’t like on a computer screen. Just the way of the world, boyo. No sense crying about it… that’s what they do.
That would certainly retard some players ability to troll effectively.
OP - my grandson is also autistic and plays WoW. We are fortunate that he has a near normal IQ but is severely delayed developmentally and cognitively so he has a difficult time processing information. We taught him a long time ago that some people will just say mean things to say them and there is nothing he can do about that except control his response. Now his response to people who use the word ‘retard’ is to suggest they read more and expand their vocabulary so they can be more creative when they insult people.
Point being - you will never stop people from using offensive language. You cannot control other people’s actions only your response to them. This might be a good lesson to teach your niece.
How long until we get the word “idiot” censored. There are so many words used in the wrong way. All you need to do is join a random m+ and you’ll see all kinds of funny stuff taking place.
Words dont hurt people, people hurt people
I’m a spectrum boy and I have no kind words for people who act like an R word in LFR and random BGs.
Does your hurt come in the rear form?
Pretty sure there’s an add-on that you can use to automatically filter out and hide messages that include any words of your choosing. Which is arguably more beneficial of adding a word to a filter that only removes one word.
You can remove a word from a sentence, but context generally allows the brain to draw its own conclusions of what was in that set of symbols, removing the offending statement entirely is usually the safer route if you are having younger kids step into the den of depravity. Oh, and be sure to /leave 2 on all of their characters as well.
If it is something you can’t assist with directly, would suggest passing the information on to someone who is at least tech-competent enough to know how to install an add-on and adjust the filters and is able to.
Yep, basically anything that might suggest someone wants a nicer community triggers the “anti-PC” crowd so hard, even when it’s something as simple as this.
They parrot things like “thick skin” and “words don’t hurt” and “that word has a definition” (even though CLEARLY that’s not how it’s being used) etc, etc, with no consideration for anyone but themselves.
Then they call everyone else snowflakes, even though their feefees are hurt that they’re called out for being terrible towards people.
It’s really predictable and I just wish OP the best at this point. Unfortunate people are terrible and abusing people with autism and other neuro-atypical people is pretty common in this community, which is sad and rather cowardly and pathetic. Bigotry is really smiled upon by this community for the most part. There are those of us out there who aren’t, but we’re not really commonplace within this “community.”
nah, get stronger
So where’s the liberal crybaby filter? I should have the freedom to not hear this crap.
If this was a thread about the N word being used and displayed on your screen, it woulda gone a different way.
Shame on you all.
