There was an interview with Josh Greenfield (Aggrend) and Nora Valletta that occured weeks after the GDKP ban.
“It’s probably a little bit too soon to say, but I think my knee-jerk initial reaction of playing the game on multiple servers a lot is yeah, I’ve noticed a lot less advertisements and things like that. It’s given us the opportunity to crack down on things a little bit more easily. Not just gold selling and botting but gold buying. GDKP is an excellent way to launder money and an excellent way to obfuscate the movement of illicit gold. Without that sort of shield, it’s making it a lot easier for us to clean up other things and be a little bit more steadfast about other aspects of the economy.” - Aggrend
“I think it’s safe to say that this early on, it’s hard to make a conclusion. So far we are, it’s looking rather like a positive change. I will say this is totally anecdotal and this isn’t backed by any of our data as of yet." - Nora Valletta
Many claims have been made by the Devs without any data to back it up yet somehow people still continue to believe the claims.
My post here isn’t to dispute any of the claims that were made. I’m here to say that these claims shouldn’t be made without data, and most certainly not by those in a position that can so easily sway the opinions of the public as this is no different than the Game Devs themselves spreading misinformation.
So often is the case when dealing with cheating/botting/unwanted behavior/etc. revealing information only makes the problem worse by informing those parties.
We know that people bought gold to use in GDKP’s. Were there innocent people in GDKP’s? Of course but they were being fed the bought gold.
In all aspects of life, cheaters ruin it for the innocent. In this case, I’d much rather disrupt the bots and lose a small avenue of gameplay. Without any stats to back it up, it’s obvious the bots will sell less gold now because there is less things to use gold on. The same effect would happen if they removed repairing gear from the game.
“Its still early but it looks positive” is an odd thing to try and use to call out misinformation but pop off I guess. They openly say in this EARLY response to the ban that they are still looking at the incoming data but that it looks positive.
The Aggrend quote is also from that early response time period and is equally as aware of data still coming in.
You likely will not get the information you want directly, and you likely would not believe it if you did.
Alright, so you’re stuck on the paraphrase and not where you are intentionally misrepresenting statements that show data is still being collected as intentional dishonesty.
The responses in the interview are aware of the data collection and that the devs are paying attention to it closely. You have chosen to be indignant and allow your bias to jade your reading comprehension into something negative when it is really a fine and acceptable answer.
you will likely not get the information you are asking for as that is internal Blizzard information. Either the ban stays and we make the educated assumption that this ban is working as Blizzard wants it to, or GDKP becomes unbanned, which would show it did not meet the goals they wanted.
Treating this as an attack on you the player is silly and misguided. Waiting for more responses that miss the scope entirely in favor of being mad.
Which is what it looks like you are doing by misrepresenting quotes. Really odd to take a “we are currently in the early data collection steps” response as “spreading misinformation”. You aren’t helping the damage, stop.
I would also like to see data, when they are ready for that data to be shared.
Literally the only facts we have on this can be taken from devs and there are plenty here who refuse to do that at all but will gladly lap up anything that supports their view from outside perspectives, I.E mass reporting resulting in bans.
The two facts we KNOW based on developer communication.
GDKP eroded traditional guild and community structures.
They both say a version of too early to tell. I honestly don’t know what more you want. My statements stand. Aggrend gave his opinion and Nora gave hers with a brief snippet about the incoming data. Nothing is being misrepresented by the devs here.
They have more than any of us do, even during basic data collection, which was then misrepresented by you. There is damage being done here.
You’re lacking nuance and too focused on black and white, which is more of a generic forum issue than just you I guess.
Apologies if I could have represented the information more accurately. It would be best if everyone read the article themselves to understand why some of the things said in that interview should not be taken as fact.
