Reported. Reported! Gah

I’d agree… to me, words are just words, it’s how they are being used that matters (to me), but that’s a different topic.

Translation: I can’t make An*l (Insert achievement here) in Trade chat any more!

Free speech is free speech out in the open, in the real world.
When you’re using a company’s platform, ie. Twitter, Facebook, World of Warcraft, you abide by their rules. Your “free speech” no longer applies.

Simply as that, really. Perhaps learn to control your own emotions and terrible jokes before attacking others for not wanting to see them.

I’d honestly be more offended if someone called me an idiot instead of da. It’s got way more to do with WHO said it than the actual words being said. It’s the intent of the words that matters.

The hardest words to hear often come from people we respect and they don’t have to be “curse words” to break you.

Are you a NEET “hermit” or something? Overly religious?

If you’ve been outside at all, you’ll know the general public liberally sprinkles in some adult language/adult words during most conversations. Fairly standard in adult-to-adult conversations, less common when little kids are around or in a religious setting

I happen to live within walking distance of a local high school. And there’s a little gas station/restaurant right down the street from me, so these random kids frequently “walk by” outside my driveway/within earshot on their way to and from school and this gas station/hangout spot. Sometimes they walk within 40 feet of my window

My goodness, the adult words I commonly hear coming out of these 14-16 year old kid’s mouths back before summer break when school was still in-session :joy: I’ve even heard some white kids casually calling themselves the N word when they’re joking around/taking jabs at each other

The point is, adult language is fairly common in real-life society… and it’s especially common in the gaming world/gaming culture (see: most twitch streamers casually swearing like a drunken sailor). You’re not really going to “avoid” it unless, again, you’re one of those weird shut-ins/no-lifers that never leaves the house or sees the sun

Truth. There are even a couple of people on the forums of all places that can stop me dead in my tracks without any negative words at all. Lol. Bluspacecow (an MVP) came into a thread I was being salty in one day and just said “You are better than this.” and I considered my life choices all day, lol.

I watched this old movie called Idiocracy at a friends house the other day, and I think we’re pretty close to that point.

Yeah, I completely agree. But, I don’t really consider it a bad thing to begin with, it’s just words.

I think the people who feel like they have to save the world from itself are probably a bigger issue than some rando kid dropping an F bomb because he’s overly upset or overly happy.

We are…We really really are.

This thread needed more electrolytes! Thanks! :joy:

Ah man, now I feel old. But that movie is really good. I love Mike Judge.

Maybe grow a thick skin why be bothered by the ignorant ,their life must be really sad, don’t get offended, pity these people

It’s hilarious that this thread is still going on.

Don’t want to get actioned, don’t break the rules. It really is that simple.

I curse like a sailor when I’m amongst friends.
I don’t, however, walk down the aisles of the grocery store cursing.
I don’t go to the local playground and drop F bombs.
I don’t walk into my coworker’s office and curse.
I wouldn’t walk into church (if I went) and throw obscenities around.

if I did any of those things, I’d fully expect others to side eye me, or even to be asked to leave if I did enough of them.

because, you know, there are certain standards of behavior people expect when out in public places.

In the case of wow, each and every one of us has even agreed to follow said standard of behavior. Don’t be all surprised pikachu faced when you don’t and get called on it. :woman_shrugging:

This! Can’t even turn off the mature language filter in Lost Ark. That said, that function might just be hidden behind a paywall. Pay 2.99$ now to see people curse!

Me either

Pretty much every single guild I’ve been in over the years (regardless of Classic or retail) has casually used swearing in their guild chat or Discord. Even back in the day during TBC the guildies casually sweared over Ventrilo while we were playing together. Adults gonna adult

Like I said, it’s just normal adult conversation. The only reasons someone would be “offended” by such common/widespread adult language is again, if they happen to be that tiny tiny minority that never goes outside into public places/overly sheltered or are overly religious :joy:

Trying to “avoid” swear words - especially in the gaming world - is comparable to a germophobe trying to avoid all bacteria, it’s unrealistic/not really possible so you might as well learn to live with the bacteria (since it’s everywhere, like swear words)

gasp

It’s interesting how the slippery slope that people insist will happen never happened in other games with much more extreme moderation than WoW.

I’m an electrician. I used to work maintenance, I worked with a lot of adults who swear. A lot. When we did maintenance in an office, retail store, or some other place where it is semi-public or professional, do you want to guess how often we swore?

it’s just more of the same - people getting mad about potentially being banned for being willfully obnoxious in a videogame. it’s the most boring and contrite type of topic.

i just got so bored with the whole thing and muted the guy screaming into the void.

it’s just annoying.

Adults can control themselves, even super mega pottymouths like myself. I invent swear words because the ones we have aren’t sweary enough… but I don’t walk down the aisles at the grocery store shouting expletives.

I used to raid with an open mic dude who always had wrestling or telenovellas on max volume in the background. On a positive note, I learned more Spanish from that in a month than I ever did in HS.
