I was out on the deck reading so may have missed some of this.
You seemed to be saying that permabans for minor things could happen and I wanted to reassure you that is not something Blizz does.
Squelch can happen, but it is minor and either removed by a GM or converted into an actual punishment if the logs support it. Inconvenient, but not at all on the level of a Suspensions or Perma.
Ah, ok. I missed that. Well hopefully they see the reply.
Itās honestly not a big deal for me at all. I am a straight white male in my 40s who served his country and spent most of his life using the f word in every other sentence. That said, I am not about to let some loudmouth offend anyone else in a game built for teens and gamers who are here to play and relax. I just know my audience and make the effort to pretend my catholic grandmother is alive and in the room with me before typing anything. I donāt have a single bone in my body that would allow me to bully someone based on any characteristic, and I have little tolerance for those who willingly go out of their way to type out some level of slur.
I here what youāre saying and its why they need to take these Social Media platforms to the Supreme Court and challenge section 230.
Everyone is quick to point out that these private companies are not beholden to the Constitution and Freedom of speech but I, like many others believe that once you are protected by Government from being sued by the public, you are no longer a private platform but a Government entity.
47 U.S.C. Ā§ 230, a Provision of the Communication Decency Act.
Section 230 says that āNo provider or user of an interactive computer service shall be treated as the publisher or speaker of any information provided by another information content providerā
These platforms are infringing on American rights to freedom of speech and at the same time being protected by the Government.
Its either theyāre a Publisher or a Platform but canāt have it both ways.
I know some will disagree but maybe one day your freedoms of speech will be infringed when the other side is in control and youāll think otherwise.
Speech is either for everyone or no one and its not about decency or kindness because Freedom of Speech is subjectively offensive.
Yeah I am the same. As I have said elsewhere in the thread, in my natural state I have the mouth of a sailor on shore leaveā¦ but I know how to behave in mixed company.
Thank you for reading the clarification, I got a bit nervous. :o I welcome any differing views and I wanna avoid any reputation for being difficult to converse with.
This is the most important factor. If you treat it like a group gathering, and remember others think/speak differently, it is just easier to level the playing field and show everyone courtesy. Except that friend you are SUPER close with, and then all bets are off
I find adversity a treat in a conversation. Itās nice when someone can converse without getting upset or insulted. Itās just a conversation, but certainly a hot topic for rule breakers
I am thankful of and respect your service, and I agree with your no nonsense and tolerance to slurs and personal attacks. They have no place, back in the day, now, and for the future.
And indeed, this thread seems to have hit a sort of end, I need to go eat, be safe everyone, enjoy your day. Tosses bags of assorted donuts to people, and cackles as I leave āSomeones gonna get coconuuuuuuuuuutā¦ >:Dā
Agreed. I didnāt even use them growing up, and being born in '74, and serving from 92-96, I heard it more than I cared to admit. But I have dated all races, and have a sister on the spectrum, so I spent most of my life understanding people who were not mainstream popular in most circles. This is the primary drive behind me Reporting every chance I get. These are the same people who have used racism against my cousin, and eventually my first wife. These are the same people who use the R word to refer to something they dislike, and I see the look in her eyes everytime it happens. I come to this game to relax, spent time with my g/f, and meet new and interesting gamers from around the world. Iām not here to tolerate people who werenāt raised right and never bothered to learn as adults.
It ends with you quitting a social game because you canāt follow social expectations and pick up on social cues.
It hurts when who you are out of the box isnāt welcome. I know intimately how that feels.
But the answer isnāt to try to force the world to tolerate you. The answer is to either 1) be who you are and accept the consequences or 2) find a place where youāre accepted.
All the energy you are expending trying to justify who you are could easily be spent somewhere you actually belong.
Yep! Started playing in Jan 2006 and remember a time before Cross Realm zones when you had no LFG or LFD, and if you did not act accordingly, you got āblackballedā and basically had to pay to change realms if you ever wanted to Dungeon/Raid again. There was accountability. So us old timers gotta stick together and bring that principle back
I guess I just donāt understand the resistance and pushback in regards to punishing players who violate the rules theyāve agreed to follow.
If you agree to the rules (and if youāre playing the game, youāve already agreed to them), and the rules say no profanity, you should expect to be punished for using profanity. Period. Nobody should act surprised when theyāre sanctioned for breaking the rules, and absolutely nobody at this point should be shocked to learn that profanity isnāt allowed.
