So when someone starts a conversation with ‘stupid’, ‘idiot’, ‘half-wit’ then they are abusive and rude?!
But it’s okay to reply to that person with ‘stupid’, ‘idiot’, ‘half-wit’ etc.?!
Double standards?!

lol twitter isn’t real life, friend.
Changing Cali, portland, and NY again is the bubble mentality. Those places have always been odd.
I’ll put it this way. When you have a dying legacy media that is in dyer need to squash ordinary people on social media with the help of companies like google and twitter, while their television and subscription service platforms crumble, that is not the signal of success.
When movies are made with these radical changes, and the production companies have to buy out tickets to inflate opening numbers, and then write articles about how “bigots” and “white supremes” are sabotaging it, that is not a signal of success.
When poll numbers do not change when the latest outrage du jour is laid out for the small fringe minority to feast on, that is no signal for successful “change.”
When you’re in the bubble, and things change, yes it changed FOR YOU. But that is not indicative of the whole. And when population density in those areas is decreasing due to people leaving, that is rejection of the supposed change and a rejection of the message.
There is a pattern of the counter culture growing. And considering such a large percentage of the establishment is for this “change,” that says it all. The counter culture are the silent. The silent that just want to be left alone while a psychotic group try to impose their will. That never ends well btw.
You don’t have to squash content creators, censor people, and move for fast drastic change if you’re truly winning. It is the sign of desperation.
Thing is, you can swear all you want. Your monitor doesn’t care. But your mouth is not connected to your keyboard. Keep it that way.
Nobody said that anywhere in the thread. You used your very first post to put words in someone’s mouth. Good job!
Thank heavens for this or I would be in trouble.
Also why I always use a push-to-talk in voice comms. No one needs to hear what comes out of my mouth, lol.
Do you ever bite your lip with those tusk…errr…teeth?
I still don’t get what you’re trying to tell me. We are literally arguing for the same side.
I have permanent scarring I do it so much.
I’m a straight white man who lives in the south. I’m a gun owner, have a house full of kids and a wife who takes care of us (and I am truly grateful for her). I don’t live in this bubble you speak of and I see the change here too.
Things are becoming normalized here that would have made people pariahs just a few years ago. The change is happening even if you think it isn’t. I’m not going to argue with you about why it’s happening because it is very much being pushed by people with deep pockets for sure.
Just remember, not all change is bad. Ask yourself what you really hate about it. What I hate about it is how “in your face” some of this stuff is and how it is being force fed to children in all forms of media.
This cultural bubble you speak of has been expanded 1000 fold by technology/social media and those things are here to stay 100%.
I don’t know about that. It probably doesn’t appreciate the spittle spray.
Just do what everyone is doing since overly sensitive people and trolls are spam reporting to be jerks: Invite all your friends to your guilds, or communities, turtle up in your private little gated communities, cut off all contact and be wary and mistrustful of outsiders, and the whole game becomes quiet, tense, and sterile. There ya go. Trade chat got tamed, people are playing nice, at the cost of everything else. I mean there is a block button and an ignore feature, but… I digress. (Unless it is threatening, hate speech, harassment, thats never okay and should be reported, pronto.)
The social contract was fine in theory, was indeed a reiteration of rules that existed since day one, but it was put RIGHT in the spotlight, and said rules were open to interpretation and personal feelings rather then context or clear cut rules. It’s guilty, until proven innocent. It’s a flawed system that relies on consistent application by GMs, CS and the playerbase, and that is not reasonable nor reliable. Add in a healthy amount of automation and it didn’t work out so well. Your account and playability, in my opinion, should not hang in the balance of how a GM or reporter feels that given day.
I want everyone to be nice, toxicity needs to be handled, harassment and hate speech and all the really horrible stuff NEEDS to go, but we need a different system then this, its too abusable and flookey and up to personal preference. Who is to say or decide what is ‘Disruptive’ or ‘Offensive’? This is just my opinion and thoughts, and if people disagree, thats great, we all should have a voice and the ability to express it.
its not even new, its just reworded.
but say w/e you want outside of azeroth, like in shadowlands or draenor.
Support cops. Well except when they are defending the nations capital, kids, or upholding a law you don’t like, obviously.
It’s not abusable. Don’t beak the ToS and it doesn’t matter how many people report you, you won’t be banned. You may be squelched if we are talking mass reports, but the paranoia is way over the top.
I’ve been told my mechanognome RP-walking around Stormwind on an RP server and greeting people with “Grettings, USER: [NAME], I am Saltbot, how may I be of assistance?” is potentially disruptive.
That’s the World of Warcraft that we pla-ay.
Really? Look at all the forum post spam by trolls under the guise of sensitive topics, that if closed, would cry ‘I am being repressed and this is not tolerant’. People are gaming the system as we speak, in game, and on the forums. Nothing is wrong with being worried and noticing faults in the system. It had noble and just intentions, really, it did. But people are warping it for their own usage, its a tragedy.
No denial here. Words like (bad), (words), (Here) are more persistent on broadcast television. Explicit Sex scenes reserved only for x-rated outlets are now included as spice for some very popular shows on streaming networks. The mandatory inclusion of certain content is being enforced, but not necessarily improving our experience. Oh, and now it is ok to go to H.S. wearing either pajama bottoms, slippers and a crop top, or ultra-short mini skirts with a bikini top and stilettos.
That being said, if I walked into McDonalds and greeted the counter attendant with “Hey, what’s up MF!” I wouldn’t question the consequence. Some things are just so obvious they are stupid.
The concept I feel is at play here is “acceptable norms”. The discussion we are in, as is the louder set of discussions happening in the real world, are the manifestations of the natural forces that drive the sine-wave of change. Things happen, then they are compensated for, and everything normalizes.
Understanding this does not mean that doing stupid things is any less stupid.
Except they’re not counter points. We all have the choice to play and agree to the rules, or not play.
OP was using the F word in general chat. if being expected to not do that prevents him from “actually having fun” then my initial response holds true:
grow up.
You get bad analogy of the month.
If someone says something you don’t like. It isn’t their fault. They don’t have to change. I have full accountability to fix the situation myself easily. Just hit ignore. It’s clean and not complicated. Just because you find something offensive doesn’t mean it is.
Just like if I don’t want to waste my time continuing this pointless conversation with you I can just hit ignore feature on these forums instead or reporting or dealing with your irrelevant posts. It’s easy and taking accountability for the situation. Get it! Good
