Define loot box, right now then.
You first. You accused someone of defending the concept, I want to know what your definition is, and it better not be âloot in a boxâ or I will find some way to smack you over the internet.
A loot box is an in-game purchase consisting of a virtual container that awards players with items and modifications based on chance.
Now tell me how the bonus roll system is not a loot box.
No guys, itâs totally good game design to buy into a slot machine that will give you nothing nine times out of ten.
inb4 Rankin says loot boxes need RL money to obtain them.
The loot box is purchased with real world money.
You donât need to spend a single penny to get bonus rolls. Therefore they are not comparable with loot boxes.
Try again.
The Bonus Roll âslot machineâ is less RNG than the Great Vault.
Bruh, he just pulled a Joseph Joestar on you.
Called it. No, it does not. There is plenty cases of loot boxes in video games that dont require RL currency to buy them.
It absolutely does. Thatâs the primary reason why people were so upset over loot boxes in the first place.
This only further proves that you have no idea what a loot box is, other than âloot in a boxâ.
I swear, only people crying over Bonus loot are dopamine addicts. They might as well play candy crush or some sh*t instead.
Well letâs see⌠a loot box is something you open, and then youâre relying on RNG to give you something of value, although thereâs a very high chance that you get nothing that you need/want.
Which is exactly what the bonus roll system does, only without the box to open.
Although to be fair to loot boxes, they actually give you more items than the WoW bonus roll, so, you have more chances to get something you want with each box.
In video games, a loot box is a consumable virtual item which can be redeemed to receive a randomized selection of further virtual items, or loot, ranging from simple customization options for a playerâs avatar or character, to game-changing equipment such as weapons and armor. A loot box is typically a form of monetization, with players either buying the boxes directly or receiving the boxes during play and later buying âkeysâ with which to redeem them. These systems may also be known as gacha (based on gashaponand integrated into gacha games.
This is the definition of loot box from Wikipedia. I highlighted the one part you care about. Notice the word âtypicallyâ right?
By your argument, the loot chests in Heroes of the Storm arent loot boxes because you cant buy them.
EDIT:
in most cases; usually.
This is the definition of typically.
I think the issue is, and this is something the players have a hard time accepting, the business model demands a certain amount of progress gating. It just canât be a single player game where you play it for a couple of days and, bam, youâve maxed your character.
One of the ways progress was gated was hiding it behind RNG by doing things like not giving you upgrades from the weekly chests.
It looks like they are trying to turn the weekly chest into a more positive experience, which will gear us quicker. That means weâre going to get gated somewhere else, this looks like one of those places.
At the end of the day, we wont know how good the loot distribution works or feels for a couple of months. But theyâre starting from a really low bar so it would be hard for it not to be better than BfA.
Then they need to add more choices like heroic dungeons , world bosses, world quest you get to choose a piece of loot. Not just raids and mythic + or pvp
Idk if I see this as a good thing. Bonus rolls give reason to rerun content within the same week.
Right now, trying to get some pants on my DH from Eternal Palace before current LFR is gone till 9.1. Week after week, no lucky drop. The bonus rolls up my chancesâŚand Iâm certainly not gearing up from old content.
If this just makes it harder to obtain transmog from soloable, old raids in the futureâŚwell that kind of sucks. The future, as in after Shadowlands.
And they couldnât do that in the other 3 to 4 threads because??
Loot vomit is a bad thing. Shadowlands is readding crafted gear with reduced randomization. Mythic+, Torghast, Raids, PvP, Crafting. What more do you need? Iâd rather have every activity have a set loot table that lets me focus on getting certain items rather than the absolute loot vomit weâve had. This makes gameplay meaningful instead of a glorified mobil game.
Bonus rolls had bad luck protection baked in. Everytime you failed to roll loot, it was more likely until it was guaranteed on the next roll. FURTHER, you cannot bonus roll the same item twice until everything that boss drops has dropped for you.
Bonus rolls were the COUNTER to RNG. You have no idea what you are talking about.
My dude if you play this game even a little then you should know getting those tokens were nothing
Playing casually on my hunter I would currently have enough marks of honour to get 10 weeks of bonus rolls and thatâs with out dipping into anything else
Iâve gotten enough bonus roll loot to justify the cost
I also donât need to use marks of honour for anything at all so itâs no loss in trading them off
