Removing bonus rolls is a good thing

Change my mind.

I don’t think it’s a good thing. I think blizzard has taken the wrong things out of why Classic was hugely successful. Year, gear meant a lot more in classic but the big thing to remember is that when you got your weapon or tier piece in classic, that was it. there was not an LFR, normal, heroic and mythic version. There was not normal, heroic, mythic0, mythic1-15 versions. The gear was just the gear and it was strong. You cannot replicate that in a world where 4 raid modes exist and m+ exists. Making gearing harder for people is not going to have the desired effect here and instead will bring more burnout than ever. I fully expect they will have to change how this works out in 9.1

Wait are bonus rolls gone in Shadowlands?

I doubt this will bring gear scarcity anywhere near classic levels. Instead, I feel it will bring gear back towards a Wrath-MoP level instead of the Legion/BFA gear vomit we’ve had for awhile.

Imo, this, combined with less randomized stats on loot, will make gear feel meaningful without it feeling uber rare like in classic.

tl;dr: Diablo loot doesn’t work in WoW.

They were basically loot crates.

Think I would rather have the money back from them. Probably a good thing to move away from this design.

it means less rolls to get more AP!

1000000% agree. Paying 2k-4k to get azerite never felt good.

Agreed, bonus rolls were introduced in MoP and I’m fine with them being removed. It played into the notion of “welfare epics” along with things like warforged/titanforged gear, random Legendary drops from Legion, etc. IMO, these were NOT very fun ways to reward gear.

This new system, although not perfect, does a better job aligning the idea of rewarding players for the effort they put in.

I mean I never got anything with my bonus rolls anyways so… sure…

It fits in with their desire to make gear harder to get in SL. I just hope world boss drops wont be random now to compensate

Bonus rolls allow you to target specific bosses for extra chances at loot.

The Great Vault removes that bit of player agency.

I got transmog I wanted from LFR off bonus rolls.

So it does hinder my transmog farming, which kinda sucks.

That is true, but I think the benefits of removing it outweigh the relatively minor cost.

Sure, you can get more chances overall, but those chances are much lower of being the items you want.

less RNG bay beee trim the fat of all this horse :poop: mechanics

The thing is, even if a bonus roll resulted in an item on a specific boss, that still never guaranteed that it was THE item you wanted. Tbh, thinking about it again, I think the vault provides more agency because you can chose statlines that you want more of the time.

There’s a higher chance of it being the item you want because you’re bonus rolling a specific boss instead of pulling from all 10 at once.

And what happens if we have another 12+ boss raid, that means even lower chances of seeing the item you want.

You misunderstand. Having a choice of three lets you pick the most ideal statline. This is objectively less random than rolling blindly no matter where you’re rolling from.
