Merely being accused of something is enough to bias people against you. People have a built in “negativity bias”, and are much more likely to believe negative information about a person. So the simple fact of a vote popping up, accusing the person of some thing, already slants the odds in favor of them getting booted, regardless of the merit of the accusation. This is undergraduate psychology stuff.
If the voting was “silent”, it would require people in the group to make their own, unbiased, independent decision. How is that a bad thing?
I mean unless you like popups spamming your screen while you’re tanking a boss?
blizzard can waste their time doing this I really don’t care - i would be more likely to click on someone names for a kick than I ever would to initiate a vote kick so this may in fact make matters worse not better in this regards anyway.
I often don’t say anything in warfronts but when I come across someone doing nothing I click for kick and I am surprised the number of times it has said only one more to vote needed (or whatever that is) and nothing at all has been said on chat.
Also, I have a degree in psychology and they never taught anything like that in my courses.
Maybe you misunderstood things aren’t quite that simple and you can’t always just apply research conclusions to every situation you personally think it fits.
Negativity bias is well established in the literature. It isn’t even disputed. It has very strong construct validity and is something taught in criminal justice and social psych.
I don’t really but I don’t see this as a problem in the first place and sometimes people should get what they deserve when they ask for ill thought out changes.
Nice attempt by you to deflect from the fact that the “OP” and You want to make it as difficult as possible to remove a Toxic individual!
What would be you and the OPs next suggestion if having to right click your portrait failed to stop Toxic players being kicked? Adding that all players would have to hit the shift key and spacebar twice before right clicking?
Classic hyperbole to try to kill a good suggestion.
Perhaps you’re one of those abusing votekick?
If someone is bad for the group then it won’t be a single player pressing kick on that someone. The system would still kick out the toxic players but highly reduce the random votekicks.
Are those two mindless people here to testify for themselves or are you just here making an stupid assumption that they didn’t click it on purpose?
Until you bring evidence you just have an assumption or an opinion that you so flippantly dismiss from others because assumptions and opinions don’t matter.
In Legion I tanked all the time. Like, that’s all I did. Not remotely suggesting I was skilled–I had players to help me, but I was good enough to get the job done. There were times when pugging with a friend or two there was some cretin would vote to remove someone. I ALWAYS declined because, in every case, the target was just subpar on dps. I do not mind subpar DPS, just don’t be disruptive or rude and do your best. That’s all I can ask.
The problem isn’t as big as you think. The point behind this post was to point out the posts about getting kicked aren’t as numerous as the posts if people shared every time they don’t get kicked.
Sure, people mindlessly click. Some also mindlessly click no because they refuse to kick people, so it swings both ways. I thought this was supposed to be a discussion, not an echo chamber. Either way, until you give a good idea, Blizzard has more on their plate besides a couple of hurt feelings.
I’ve honestly been vote kicked 3 times ever and once, I legit deserved it for running my mouth via angry typing into a random instance. They were right to rid themselves of my temper tantrum.
I generally try to be the bigger person about these things. Put out the vibes you wish to be receiving. If there’s one thing I ever 100% want to pass on to my niece (I co-parent, long story) it’s that lesson.
Be the change you want to see in other people.
Back up on your anger. Excuse mistakes. You make them, too.
Talk things through. But really, Hear each other. Empathize your own experiences so you can
Co-exist, we’re all here anyway. Have some perspective. Accept limitations, yours & others. Never forget your manners because Giving respect will always Earn respect as an equal.
Don’t you think not having a prompt in the middle of the screen and people having to individually right click the player to votekick approve is a good change?
Maybe, but not big enough fo blizzard to notice in order to actually implement. I wasn’t speaking for, or against anything, I was pointing out that you mentioning complaint posts in the past could be diminished to nothing by the people with no complaints. There are always more people pleased, or at least content with their situation, but they never post about it.
Someone proposed a good idea. It requires a touch more effort, but that is it. Further, it does not promote a bandwagon frenzy.
For instance, I do not like the way Bobduhwarrior is playing…he only auto-attacks and is abusive. I go to the extraordinary effort of voting to remove him. This does NOT prompt anyone else to do so. But, on their own, the other players find Bobduhwarrior to be not trying his best and abusive as well. They do the same and vote. Bobduhwarrior is removed because of a poor attitude and abusive comments, not because we all followed one vote like lemmings over a cliff.
