Yeah somewhere along the line many players adopted a “I just want it all over with” approach to 99% of the game’s content and Blizz catered to it.
Making 99% of the game’s content so bad that everyone just wants it over with didn’t actually improve the game however.
The leveling experience as a whole speaks to this. TW speaks to this. World content speaks to this. Everything but end game instanced pillars speaks to this. People asked for mind numbingly bad content that was at least easy and fast. They got it in spades.
Because you can only run the same dungeons so many times before it becomes mind-numbing. Time walking is literally there to keep dungeons we ran to death years ago relevant.
^ This. I’ve gotten maybe two of them in three consecutive weeks of timewalking across multiple alts. Not only do they speed things up immeasurably, I have more than enough non-twink runs to actually practice my class. Their presence adds variety to timewalking, and let me tell you, variety is the thing that mode most sorely needs.
So what I see is you want them to take only your perspective, unless you are not reading the majority of these posts, people overwhelming disagree with you, but I know your a special snowflake that requires everything to be as you see it.
I wish you luck in life, its gonna give you a hella dose of floorazine.
Only WoW players would see someone clear a dungeon in 3 minutes for them and get mad that they didn’t spend 30 minutes wasting their time for the exact same rewards.
I was unaware that voicing your opinion around Nyamh meant you expect everyone to adopt it. Now that I know that’s how you feel I will continue to not care.
I’m sorry what? Twinks is the only reason you’re even able to level up through battlegrounds in the first place. And very shortly after xp locking became possible, they’ve had their own queue when they lock xp.
I do like that you have a hidden profile, I’m posting on one of my twinks as well as being in the game right now, on said character. I sir or maam am not hiding behind anything.
before the start of the expansion i was getting back in the mood running m+s. a bunch of people had xp locked and it somehow spread to me but i didnt know.
when the xpack started i wasted a LOT of quests before realizing my xp was locked lol
tl;dr it shouldnt spread to group members. if i wanna lock my xp ill go do it on my own terms.
Because they want to play other aspects of the game, but when all aspects offer character power, they suck it up and “do stuff they don’t like” in order to gain power for the stuff that they do like.
In high level raiding, there’s a litany of phases and mechanics that if done improperly, both as an individual and as a group, the encounter fails, and you have to start over. Considering a good individual raid fight can take 10m+, retries are expensive.
In high level M+ the group has to master the choreography of the individual boss fights, along with the geography of the dungeon, along with trying to stay on top of their rotation to be as effective as possible in order to defeat the encounters and time the dungeon. If something goes awry, not only can you be defeated by a single encounter, then entire run can be compromised.
That style of content, at those high levels, are the exception in modern WoW.
Pretty much everything else (excluding PvP) is mechanics light, consequence free, murder ball style game play.
Ever see “Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring”? In the last battle when the undead army arrives and overwhelms the forces from Mordor? Seeing ghost and zombies or whatever as they are swarm over the huge elephants and everything else like a flood of carnage?
That’s modern murder ball game play. A crowd of toons overwhelming whatever local fauna dare to resist until the boss pops up and is then dispatched with efficiency as the uncoordinated mob lets fly onto the single target.
When was the last time you saw a World Boss fight fail? CAN they fail? Yes. Have they failed? Yes. DO they fail? Very rarely. How many of those have you queued up for, zoned in to find you arrived mid-fight, you threw your abilities at the boss, maybe avoided the swirlies, and then it dies, you collect you loot, and click “leave party”. The “murder ball” has arrived and descended on this boss that spawned two minutes before it found itself on fire…again.
Remember Forbidden Reach? The swarms of toons invading the creches. Scrubbing them clean of mobs like a sandblaster, killing the bosses, then running out, turning around, and doing it again. Run run run, kill kill kill, loot loot loot, but don’t stop – no one else is stopping.
Or the rares in FR. The sky is filled with circling toons, like vultures, waiting for one to spawn. THERE IT IS! Ping on the map! Cue Wagner on the speakers! The skies darken and descend in front of the rare, the crowd races into the cave, a beat, maybe two, to wait for “Avengers assembled” and off it goes. “The hunter, of course…”
Dead rare, toons scurrying away, a dozen of more mounts instantly summoned and off into the sky again…circling…until…THERE IT IS!
Korthia, Zereth Mortis, same thing. Zaralek Caverns, the rares were not as important, so folks didn’t kill them.
SL expansion ends, Elementalists show up, toons arrive, wholesale blasting and hacking and bashing of mobs until the boss spawns, who would then be summarily murdered. End of DF, same thing.
Then, of course, there was Remix. Where I would join 5 raids A DAY, we would run run run, I would press buttons, watching the meters with toons having 3, 4, 5 more MAGNITUDES of DPS as I had. “Well, I’m certainly making a contribution here…”
But I persevered. And eventually I was doing 3, 4, 5 orders of magnitudes as others in the group. 25? man raid, with the bulk of the DPS (like 70%) being the top 3 players. All my shaman would do is cast Chain Lightning and like the Emperor in “Return of the Jedi”, mobs, packs, bosses would just melt under the withering, sparking power of my electricity.
And its glorious! It fun! For awhile, but it doesn’t really last.
All of this content rewarded volume, none of it rewards “smart” game play. Show up, press a button (ANY button), try to stay out of the fire. Its all farm content, needing to be done repeated and continually. No ones going to get that “lucky drop” and never come back. Nope, in for a penny, in for a pound.
Playing complete strangers, the bots in the Follower dungeons talk more than these people do (how can they talk, they’re too busy running to catch up or pressing the ANY button). There’s no stopping, no gap in the action. If you’re lucky a healer MIGHT get a rez off before we get into combat again, otherwise, tough luck – you’re walking.
Seeing that this continual, promoted style of game play ends up in the dungeons is not surprising at all. It has been like this for a long, long time. Whether it’s raid geared tanks clearing the dungeons or these new twinks, its go go go. It’s go go go so we can go go go again.
Faceroll =/= one shotting everything. An instance can still be easy without people trying to kill everything in one hit. Even then relevance?
I’m aware and the point still stands. I’m not paying $15 a month to watch someone else play a game. I’m paying to get to play and participate as part of a team, not to be someone’s +4 on follow.
People have said what the issue is, you’re just being deliberately obtuse about it. Issue is that by allowing certain twinks to come in and one shot everything, 4 other people aren’t even getting to participate and play at all. They’re being relegated to NPCs on follow. That’s not what I signed up for nor is that what I’m paying for.
If you want to roll it that fast, you can do it solo or with the twinks since you’re the odd one out. Never in 20 years of this game has it EVER been intended to let people one shot everything and invalidate group content at the expense of other people.
I will when blizzard fixes their scaling or puts the twinks in their own group pools as they should’ve already done. Again it’s supposed to be group content, not 1 guy +4 npcs content. If you honestly think it’s a chore, why are you doing it?
It’s like complaining that you hate spicy food because it causes explosive bathroom visits, yet continuing to eat it anyways. If you hate it then stop eating it, otherwise you don’t get to complain. If you keep eating after saying you hate it, then you prove you don’t really hate it as much as you claim you do.
Only clowns think everyone wants to pay $15 a month just to watch everyone else play a game and not get to participate. Also if you’re taking 30 minutes in a TW with a decently geared toon you’re doing it wrong.
No one is saying you shouldn’t be allowed to twink or go as fast as you want it the group agrees to it. What folks ARE saying is that you don’t get to come into a group and hijack it by killing everything in one shot and denying 4 other people the ability to participate when they didn’t sign up for that.
OBJECTIVELY FALSE. Is it easiest thing ever to level through BGs, no it’s not. Can you do it, absolutely you can. You do NOT need twinks to level in bgs and the fact you even think that just screams desperation.
And as you people have said before, TW doesn’t give you high tier gear, but catchup gear and some mogs. You do a few heroics and a couple delves and you’ll quickly replace anything you could get from TW. so the idea that it’s to “gain power” is false. Meaning it’s just people trying to be obnoxious tools at the expense of other people.
There is a HUGE difference in learning the mechanics of a fight for m+ and raids vs what these obnoxious twinks are doing in TW. In m+ and raids you’re learning the fights so you can clear the content. Even then in those instances EVERYONE is required to participate if you want to clear the content. It has NEVER been the intent for someone to be able to nullify group content and turn it into a one man show. See the guild that got banned for the saronite bombs on the Lich King back in Wrath, or the guy that got banned for the Martin’s Fury incident. When someone can nullify current group content be it scaled in the positive or negative, it’s a problem.
Also in m+ and raids, everyone gets to participate because you have to. In fact how many threads do you see on average about whatever flavor of the month class people want nerfed so they can get invites? People want to participate in group content, and even demand it with m+ and raids. Yet somehow according to these people, I’m the problem because I dare want to participate in content when I’m rolling through TW? Yeah no it doesn’t work that way.
And no, being able to participate in content is not the exception at all, it’s been the precedent for 20 years and how it was always intended to be. They do not want one person nullifying stuff at the expense of everyone else. Nor do they want massive scaling issues, with the level 70s no longer being able to xp lock as just one example of it.
Promoting going faster is not even remotely the same as giving someone an “I win” button like we see with these twinks. Setting aside all other arguments around the “go go go rush rush rush, must get m+ world first infinity” for the moment, they have NEVER intended for people to nullify group content. Folks can try to pretend being able to one shot everything and prevent 4 other people from playing is normal but it’s absolutely not.
