I played on lights hope from 1-60 constant pop was at 15k and was playable easily. Even with the world pvp going on.
What server did you play on?

Your argument is: Blizzard make a bad decision to impliment layering, therefore, they can’t remove it because it wouldn’t be good.
I think the cooldown on layer hopping was a great idea
You probably don’t care if Classic dies either. I am speaking as someone who actually cares about the game.
You don’t care…
Not quite. Layering is used to spread the load out on the servers when there are a lot of players concentrated in one area. It is done to help prevent lag issues in the area and take some of the stress off the servers. It has NOTHING to do with queue times to log into said servers.
No. My argument is “your solution is just as stupid as layering is just as stupid as opening a ton of servers that may or may not experience a sizely population drop after the tourists leave.”
All attempt to solve the same problem, tape them up to the wall, throw a dart, and pick whichever suboptimal situation you hate the least.
I think 1 layer hop per 2 months is more balanced.
The solution to this disaster is to remove layering now and deal with the server ques and populations accordingly. Not to let the economy and game be destroyed.
I don’t remember. I played on it when it first peeled off of Elysium but to be fair not during prime time. There were 15k spikes, but it wasn’t 24/7. Before the classic announcement I saw it dip down to 8k pretty consistently.
I think 1 layer hop per 2 months is more balanced.
Hey let’s quest together! Oh hold on… Got to wait two months!!
except that blizzard have stated that they will be removing layering completely in the next phase anyway - so its just a matter of timing.
Sounds fair, layering is stupid.
See ya in 2 months bud
Is your solution to put tens of thousands of players into the game world at once, or to put a few thousand and the rest in a 12 hour queue? How long do you think Classic lasts if they did either of those?
I can tell you, the servers would melt faster than an icecream made in wendys!
It’s also very likely that once the tourists are gone and the population is more stable they’ll open as many new servers as they need to make it work without layering.
Listen.
THE SERVERS ARE HANDLING ALL THE PLAYERS ON THERE RIGHT NOW. LAYERING ONLY HELPS SINGLE SPOT CONGESTION. PLAYERS ARE SPREAD OUT. THEY CAN TURN LAYERING DOWN A TON AND/OR OFF AT THIS POINT.
Lol doubt. They want people to move now rather then open more later.
It absolutely has the effect of reducing the queue time. A server would normally only hold a couple thousand players. Layering allows several copies of this couple thousand player capacity, multiplying the amount of possible players. With no layering right now, we’d need far more servers.
