When LFD/RDF first luanched on Wrath it essentially created a shift in the Community from MMO to lobby based game.
The same people who want RDF now will be the ones who want LFR as well, we should not go down this path of convenience as that is the not what Classic was designed for.
It was intended as a tool of convenience the same was LFR is, it is what led to LFR. That is how they got their data that that type of system would work.
It’s Classic, you should walk there like they did before. Retail has all the modern QoL you’re looking for, they’re 2 different games and should have no overlap.
Both tools function mechanically the same, both tools provide access to otherwised socially gated content. Both tools do nothing beyond forming a group and provide transport.
Exactly the same thing. Easier content… automated grouping and porting to the instance.
Sure Dungeon Finder was first introduced during Wrath of the Lich King, when Heroics 5-man dungeons were end-game dungeons, but the design intent is made clear in Retail now, where Heroics, much like LFR are not worth running at end game.
Should Dungeon Finder be included for leveling? It is in Retail.
Most people, at least with regards to WoW, play Retail.
Not really, RDF is just a tool to get groups and get to dungeons. The actual dungeons themselves are exactly the same as they are if you don’t use RDF. LFR was explicitly tuned to be easier than normal raids, so yeah not really the same at all.
Well actually yes they are, entering a dungeon through RDF gets you the exact same dungeon as if you had formed your group manually and run to it. The difficulty is the same, the rewards are the same etc…
LFR does not, that’s a pretty significant difference.
Dungeons in wrath are positioned differently than they are in retail, they’re clearly positioned as pre raid content. In retail anything less than several keys into mythic is completely skippable, so no the design intent also isn’t remotely similar.
You cannot use the Dungeon Finder (random or otherwise) for end-game (difficulty) dungeons in Retail, which clearly shows the design intent of Dungeon Finder. Likewise, you cannot use LFR for end-game (difficulty) Raids.
Mmm… That doesn’t seem entirely accurate. At the beginning of an expansion, for example, Mythic (not Mythic+) Dungeons are the end-game content, that does indeed serve as pre-raid content, and of course as patches are introduced, and new raids come out, difficulty and gear ilvl are adjusted accordingly.
