My memory might be faulty, but I thought rank 14 wasn’t just top honor for the week, but for 2 or 3 consecutive weeks.
That’s what made groups almost mandatory. You had to control the top end with a few people and then make sure the chosen one had a little more honor than the others, then maintain it for a couple of weeks.
Also on a side note, did you lose access to rank locked gear if you weren’t currently that rank? I can’t remember if that was a thing or not.
I read about the system a while back. The first system required R14 to be top PvPer and IIRC you got like 10 or 15% of the bar filled rach week, but coming in at 2nd penalized you severely.
It was, as far as I read, revamped to be less ridiculous. R14 was still a big commitment, but less ridiculous than before.
Madseasonshow recently talked about myths in a video and he mention the R15 one and I had to laugh so hard because talked about Kuroma, a feral druid on my vanilla server, who held GM for 6 months straight attempting to get it before he stopped.
No. There was a static cap on the number of slots that could advance at the top end. Not only that, but you had to maintain that weekly position for weeks in a row to keep advancing or you’d lose progress. The whole push from 11 to 14 took like 2-3 months of constantly being near the top of honor earned for the week. In the case of 13-14, I think you had to be top 3 just to not go down. I cant remember the specifics very well.
Unless Blizzard changes how it works, I don’t see how it will be possible for legit players to compete against account sharing and win trading. We’ve seen how many people are willing to exploit layering, and how many people no life the game already. And with Xrealm bgs, they wont even be really restricted by queue times either. Its win trade and account share all day every day. I can’t possibly imagine how bad I think it’s going to be this time around. I made 13 last time. My gut tells me I’m probably not getting past 11 this time lol.
I seem to remember someone hitting it then not having the gold to buy the gear and was begging for gold before the next Tuesday when he’d lose rank 14.
Also, back then every Tuesday morning you’d hit the Blizzard website then filter your server and it would list everyone’s honor so you knew where you stood.
I’m curious how we are going to get this info in classic.
Doesn’t it all depend on how frequent and how many others are going for it?
As in, it’s not about getting X number of kills to reach Y rank, it ranks you amongst everyone else based on number of kills?
So if half your server is focusing on Ranking, will take even longer?
Yes. Small servers were much easier to rank on because of it.
Also, because of the smaller size, there were fewer organized groups running for it. They would come to agreements on the honor they would earn for a week to keep it to a reasonable level, but still higher than a solo player could expect to accrue without a premade team chaining wins.
ahh cute did you just learn what a strawman is??? because this is not a strawman i will more then likely never get to top rank (not from lack of trying) but I think it should stay the same…just because you dont want to put the time in but still want the rank does not mean it needs changed…#NOCHANGES
+1 on all this. I was rank 10 in vanilla, with pretty casual gameplay but just given the population count of today’s servers, I know you will have to opt a extra few hours in just to obtain 10 this time around.
All in all, it’s doable running solo but just ensure you can dedicate a few hours of the day, every day, for the grind
