The old pvp ranking system needs tweaks

I [am] concerned I am not going to be able to basically just play WOW for 20 hours straight every day and thus not get to the max rank.

I know this game should be as close as possible to Vanilla WoW but i think in this situation there needs to be a change, I think you need to implement a different system than the old one because it was really bad and it is really bad still.

If the system stays it will promote:

-Dangerous practices that could put a person’s health into risk
-Dangerous practices that could put a person’s life style into risk
-Promotes the use of bots
-Promotes account sharing
-Faction collusion to avoid being matched among premaids

Most people would agree that the system is heavily flawed and needs tweaks so people don’t start doing any of the above because people WILL do these things if the system remains the same.

And sorry but the excuse of “not everyone needs a trophy” or similar STRAWMAN falacies don’t counter this suggestion because no one is saying to make it really easy to get, just make it more reasonable, hard but not hard that you basically need to ruin your life to get it, Blizzard as a company should not encourage this type of behavior.

Assumptions gonna get you in trouble. I don’t assume I will ever reach rank 14. Maybe rank 10 or 11 if I’m lucky. I think the majority of players that would ever be able to reach rank 14, yourself included, know how difficult is it to obtain this, thus, they won’t try to rank 14.

I don’t think sane people will go insane for a video game. Sounds a bit ridiculous. The people that choose to do this, are probably struggling in other aspects of life if they have an opportunity to devote so much time to a video game.

Unless they completely revamp the rewards system and gut it entirely, it sucks. So they would have to have a major overhaul, which goes against the main purpose of the museum piece. I would just advise people to get gear in other ways and to just enjoy PvP for what it is.

I want it to be hard enough that I could never accomplish it but not require an unhealthy amount of time for people to do it.

I’m a no changes kinda guy, and I don’t pvp at all, but I understand only a small percentage of the population will be able to obtain the grand Marshall gear. Idk what if they just locked each piece behind like a 15,000 HK, 20k, etc? More people would be inclined to grab that gear possibly. What do you guys think? I don’t have an opinion but it’s an interesting subject

It’s not changing, too bad.

Absolutely not.

Rank 10 is easily achievable while holding a job and other real world responsibilities. R14 is not meant to be something everyone and their mama can unlock.

If you’re not willing to hard commit to playing nonstop, you don’t deserve the top rank.

If you arent willing to kill yourself to get rank 14, you obviously dont want it bad enough.

You shouldn’t been jobless and single or lacking other responsibilities in order to get max ranked in a PvP system. PvP should be skill or kill based, not a 20 hour a day for 3 months straight, time-gated reward. I’m super into #nochanges and love playing the game I remember from years ago, but that one item is just bad.

Reason 1: lots and lots of people will cheat and share their account so friends/guildmates/paid farmers can grind honor on their char in shifts

Reason 2: tests of human endurance are not healthy in a video game

Care to elaborate? Just trying to get a healthy discussion going

Why not? Why should everything in game be obtainable? What’s the problem with having this one thing require a massive amount of commitment to achieve?

I’m not going for R14, but I’ll applaud the players that manage to climb that mountain and unlock it. I know it’s not an easy feat, which is why I’m sure the players that obtain it feel a great sense of accomplishment after putting in the work.

Because unlike just about everything else in the game, this requires no skill, no ability, no amount of killing the opposing faction.

The rank climb is purely a time in-game item, which is why it’s prone to AFK botting, account sharing and other non-sense.

It shouldn’t require sometime to practically kill themselves to achieve. They could do a simple fix, like making rank decay smaller, maybe 10% instead of 20%…

So you’re biggest concern is the time investment and how long it takes to reach top honor.

But you haven’t given any suggestions on how to change this.

No matter what you do change, rank 14 needs to be for the top 1%

Edit: I see you suggested rank decay to 10% instead of 20% but would that really change anything?

No/10chars

It would probably decrease the time required daily a few hours, at least give the people going for it time to sleep and eat properly. It takes 20 hours a day, for 3 months straight without missing any days to get rank 14.

That’s 4 hours a night, not including showering, food… etc.

I’m all for grinds and putting time in, but there has to be a limit. It’s just ridiculous. It was insane back then and it’s still a terrible system for determining top 1%.

Rank decay of 20% is awful.

I’ll never get past Rank 10 and I’m fine with that. I do AV because I enjoy it.

As someone who reached rank 14 back in vanilla, and know exactly what it entails, I’m going to say… nah. No changes.

Why? Because I have 0 intention of trying to hit 14 again for the exact reason that I know what it entails, and now 15 years later have a lot less time to play with RL responsibilities.

And you know what? That’s entirely fine. The title wasn’t meant for the masses 15 years ago, and it’s still not meant for the masses today. I’ll go for 10-11 and be more than satisfied with it.

The people who are up in arms about how they won’t be able to compete for 14 are the retail brained types who think just because something in the game exists, it needs to be accessible for everyone.

This ain’t it chief.

Go away. Seriously.

Doubtful. If everyone is getting a 10% decay instead of 20% you’ll still have people sinking more time then you. I think you’re right when this really wouldn’t change rankings or people playing 18-20hours a day.

But then the others grinding to rank 14 will just skip these things to still capture that title. If you play for 14 hours versus someone for 18hours, I doubt the system is in your favor even with a higher win percentage (up to a point, wins are big).

This. Rank 14 is for people who don’t have much going on besides World of Warcraft. Let those unemployed neckbeards get atleast one victory.
