Quinyin is ditching FFXIV, says he doesnt understand the hype!

Yep. Players gulp story down content like jabba gulps down fish. SWTOR learned this the hard way when they dumped most of their $200 million into the story and solo questing experience(hundreds of quests). People max leveled in a week (one guy did it in three days) and then complained that there was nothing to do except run alts. Every time I see someone around here cry “I’m bored! Need more content!”, I’m reminded of that.

It’s just a simple fact of life: No company can keep new content coming as fast as players breeze through it. That’s the downside of the themepark MMO. Obviously WOw’s idea is to give players something to do AFTER they gulp that content down and that’s why the progression systems have been getting heavier with each expansion.

So… A winner?

Very true, I don’t like multiple classes on one character thing in FF14, if I streamed, have alts in each classes and not all in one character . . . they would litch me lmao

Are you sure you’re not talking about FFXIV with this one?

Because FFXIV provides way more for players to do after they reach the level cap than WoW does at cap.

You’re also completely overlooking that FFXIV has been sustainable for over eight whole years before this sudden hype. It’s all because of this model they’ve been following.

He used to be a D3 fanboy, why the hell would he like FFXIV anyway?

Again, I’m not saying FFXIV doesn’t have other stuff going on than story. But the idea of “well its a story game so if you skip the story ofc you won’t like it” keeps popping up, and THAT is specifically what I was responding to.

Do you get a commission every time you say that word?

It’s pretty much the opposite of Diablo and Path of Exile. I don’t think people who main those games would like it.

I wouldn’t take Quin’s word on anything honestly. The guy plays every game and doesn’t really get invested into them. You can see his comments alone are alluding to the fact he’s missing the biggest draw for FFXIV. “I’m not huge into the lore” when that’s probably the biggest drive for a huge bulk of players.

As for the other things:
“Slow clunky gameplay”
“Lack of RPG mechanics/character customization”

Looking at his own twitch page you linked his first time trying the game out was FOUR days ago.

It’s safe to say he has not made it to any point where what people are referring to as good was seen by him. You see this a lot when people complain about “slow and clunky gameplay”, then you ask them what level they got to and it’s always “like 30.” No duh the game is clunky, your class is literally missing 3/4 of its kit at that point. Most have at best like 5 abilities unlocked.

Take Dragoon for example. You have no abilities, the class feels boring and slow at level 30. When you get to 60 you have a hell of a lot more to work with and because of that the class feels more active. A lot of classes get their 0gcds much later which speeds up the gameplay because you’re weaving 1-2 (in rare cases for some jobs, 3) in between your GCDs when you’re able to.

Gunbreaker starts at 60, it sucks until I think 72 when they get continuation. That one ability basically doubles how much you’re pressing since you have your standard GCD combo, and an off gcd combo you’re weaving in between.

That and well, I wouldn’t trust the words of a guy who is renowned in the PoE community for losing a lot of hardcore league characters because he tries to greed mechanics, or doesn’t pay attention like when he bricked himself running into a physical reflect map and one shotting himself on hardcore and having a meltdown over how it was the game’s fault and not him improperly reading affixes.

FF14 is actually pretty bad at the start. It will slowly pick up over time…which is a long time.

If you are not into weeb story then this game is not for you.

WOW has been far more than just “sustainable” for 16 years so I’d say their model is working pretty well too.

It’s not obsessed but FF is the most popular MMO right now and doing a lot of things right. They really got a good model for an MMO over there and Blizz could learn a lot from them if they want to reverse this catastrophic situation they are in.

He isnt really a MMORPG fan tbh , he is more into ARPG’s.

I agree with him though, its not really a great game imo (not a fan of anime myself) id recommend ESO over FF, but play whatever you like and if none give you enjoyment dont play any of them. Heaps of great single player games out there.

People flocking to it most likely just want something different and it is nothing like WoW.

It doesn’t matter, not everyone is going to like FF but the majority will. That is all that matters. Which is why they are getting so many players while WoW is in a downward spiral during a new patch release.

WoW players flocking to FF says more about WoW then it does FF. The bar isnt really high.

Yeah, that’s something I really wish people would get. The flocking to it is a problem from WoW. FF14 didn’t release anything new or huge. Blizzard dropped 9.1 and this happened.

Based on how many players decide to stay on 14 over WoW however will be more to do with FF than it will with WoW.

WoW is 17 years old, its glory days long gone.

Bingo FF is in a slow content period as the new expansion comes out in Nov. WoW is in it’s busy time releasing a very anticipated 9.1 patch that actually flopped and people not only didn’t return, some that were still here left.

I heard that M+ participation for 9.1 is less then the last season of BFA. Lets think about that. Like really think about how bad that is.

This is true but when you been in a bad relationship for so long soon as you get someone treating you right you won’t want to leave. FF doesn’t crap on it’s players and actually cares.
