Question, why isn't maintenance done in the overnight hours?

Blizzard has all the data to know what times are best to do maintenance, and they chose 7am because they know it impacts less players, compared to 3am PT where it would impact more players at that time than 7am due to Oceanic player base peak times.

What are you suggesting? Impacting more people who play because a small minority want to play the game at times when it has little impact to the majority of the playerbase?

I mean this could be said about your entire response. If its ending up in multiple weekly maintenance then it obviously isnt a responsible business practice. Just one that enough people let them get away with.

Used to you could actually expect to see a business get better by putting the screws to them but now since a huge number of people are satisfied with platitudes and “We Hear You.” We cant ever expect growth or we get called unreasonable for wanting a billion dollar company idk to reinvest into is consumer base

does Blizzard want to pay for a night crew and the differential ? probably not

I think that applies everywhere though. Minus the drunks and working conditions.

But I do think that the morning folks outnumber us night folks. And I just feel like it would be hard either way to find people wanting to perform maintenance at like one in the morning.

Either way, not everyone is going to be satisfied. I personally think people just need to get over it lol. I just surfed the forums, watched youtube, and played smash bros for wii u gaining some trophies while I waited.

Either way you do maintenance, a bunch of people are still going to be inconvenienced.

How DARE you!

Just joking, mate.

Im surprised so many Europeans and Asians use American servers. What about the Euro servers?

I’m admittedly ignorant about it. That’d be cool if they seperated the servers by region to better distribute the maintanece. If that’s even possible.

Some people moved from the US to those regions, and since all there progress is saved to their NA, why would someone want to restart all the progression they have made from the US?

Thank you Blizzard for catering to the 315 Australians that play the game.

It’s a global game that has it’s headquarters in N.A. so they do it on the N.A business schedule.

That makes sense. I just didn’t think it was such a common thing though.

QUEBEC is the centre of the World! I demand maintenance after midnight!

I guess they could do it with a graveyard shift, but that brings a whole other set of complications for staffing and policy type things.

I mean, we can’t fully know for sure with everyone. Some also have friends that they want to play with and will do anything to play with those friends as well.

Love the people so upset they are outlining exactly how blizz can do this. You can do it remote!

Ok so u less such people are insiders to blizzard’s IT infrastructure and also know exactly what any particular maintenance entails - I’d love to know how they can be so sure of what and how it can be done!

So if hardware changes or upgrades are being done , if an outside vendor is involved- you can do that remote?

Any IT organization I worked for - more important work than a game btw - financial and healthcare - it’s SOP to not leave a vendor onsite unattended. For starters. Next hardware can’t be installed remotely.

Hire some robots.

So instead of pushing maintenance back an hour you would rather them just redo the maintenance the next day? Thats pretty cooked ngl

how do you know 3am impacts fewer players than 7am? are you basing this on actual data (which blizzard has) or just guessing?

Lmao from me dawg.

I bet its its something so simple. Like bob, joe, tim, and dimitri have all worked at blizz for 10 years as the network engineers, and they have a fixed schedule.
