Question: Please explain why the named 'NECRO' threads are so bad?

Imo you shouldn’t get banned for their bad forum design. If they didn’t want people replying to posts late they should just add a “this topic will close after 1 month of inactivity” like the EU forums

In my experience you normally will find better answers on wowhead with more current information if you look at the actual expansion that the reply was added… It shows it at the top of the comment. It isn’t always the most highest rated comment on that site that has the best information. That is why Blizzard refers us to there for our answers. It really is the most comprehensive site for solutions.

If I’m doing a search for a topic in a video game on Google that brings up forum replies, Reddit posts, etc, the first thing I do is check the date it was posted - that says in the Google search - because outdated information is useless nine out of ten times. I’m not even going to look at a thread posted two years ago, far less post in that thread, but the WoW forums are its own slow-minded beast.

I understand you don’t generally spend a lot of time on these forums and don’t know the rules.

The CS forums are a bit different and have stricter rules when it comes to necroing threads than any of the other subforums.

I am sorry you felt attacked and I hope that they were able to give you enough information to answer your question.

I disagree. Two hundred years later what information will we gleam from a forum post on the Warcraft forums that was a string of emojis followed by /tencharacters.

Is it worth the data space, the energy consumption, will it even give us actual insight to anything? I do not think so. Preserving everything in Internet culture, or even real life is a compounding consumption that will just burn resources faster and faster.

I’m fine with necro-ing posts. But one issue is that if they’re super old, it’s unlikely that they are still accurate. For example, discussions on talents from season 1 aren’t terribly useful currently.

But if you want to talk in an old post, you do you

Wrong, you just can’t bump threads. Many older threads are still relevant.

But Monkiy like to say factually incorrect things.

Is the qualifier here. IF the poster has a good reason to necro, then its allowed I bet. That rule is mainly for things like an OP just posting “bump /10characters” to get their thread higher in the Forum listing.

You can search the forums for information without actually responding to it. If you find a post from 3 years ago talking about something in a past expansion that is useful to you, why does it need a comment? If it’s just research, that is.

Thing is, many old posts become outdated as the game changes. Information that was right then may not be right now.

Mainly because, with Necro threads, you have to scroll all way down (frequently through hundreds of posts) just to find their new post.

It’s all quite stupid.

You’re not supposed to create duplicate threads, and you’re also not supposed to respond to old threads, i.e. necroing. If they truly don’t want you to ‘necro’ old threads, just lock them after six months or some fixed period.

Please don’t tell me you didn’t read further on past my post and see all the other quotes from other CS in regards to thread necro’ing.

I did not, actually. Sorry. Mah bad!

Yes, it’s all so stupid that they expect us to use our brains and not post a twelfth thread of the same topic on the front page, and also not bring back nine month old threads that are no longer relevant. How is anyone supposed to find a middle ground?! It’s like they aren’t even thinking of the children! Won’t someone please think of the children???

i’ve seen mods delete posts from and lock necroed threads. so NO the mods do NOT like it AT ALL. it’s rare but it happens.

no it’s quite clear.
dont make duplicate posts WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME FRAME.

They used to have a thing to where they get rid of posts that had 60 days of no responses. But they got rid of that, and now it’s a free for all, and you can necro a post from 15 years ago and nobody would bat an eye.

There was this movie called ‘Gaslight’… that just keeps rolling over and over in my mind. Replies from the many and ‘blue …’ it might be quite entertaining for some who haven’t seen it?

It’s just like real life, when a book gets to be a few months old we just throw it in the garbage.

The people that complain about necro threads, are themselves… not always very smart. To put it politely.

are you referencing the comments?

all the latest info is provided in the comments tab.

it’s very rare that you won’t find your answers there.

So … it is funny for me to get so many comments, like I was born yesterday in wow. I know how to search, or maybe you are being sarcastic. There is many, many times there is information that I don’t or can’t find on Wowhead ( I am extremely grateful for Wowhead …but)

I also search Icyveins… when this doesn’t pan out, I search the ‘internet’ and then get links to ‘NECRO’ posts… In my opinion it is amazing the ‘condescending’ replies are just so wonderful. Just really thank you!

I think the player based and support information for WoW is shrinking and that is reasonable. It’s just life. Glad so many are available here to give their ‘condescending’ and unhelpful opinions. JMO. Claps of joy to you all.
