PVP newcomers

This is why my priest is NE. Only need 5 seconds to get out of pvp combat and drink/eat while stealthed. Much more difficult to interrupt a drink you can’t see.

Create a dwarf paladin. Spec them holy.

Put blessing of freedom on your first key. Put flash of light on your second key. Put bubble on your third key. Put cleanse in your fourth key.

Go find some basement dwelling warrior and follow them around. Give them freedom, cleanse them, and heal them.

Congratulations, you’re now a good PVPer.

Don’t lie, your priest is Night Elf because they look the best.

Priests look the best when they’re killing a rogue through a bunker wall with starshards. Back in the day when AV popped.

That is probably the worst choice. You can max out HKs in BGs sometimes by spreading lots of dots but you get annihilated by warriors, and by rogues, most shamans will wreck you, feral druids will too. I do pally and shaman and rogue. Hunter in PvP gets really annoying because of the ammo upkeep.

Here’s a follow-up question. Which classes can do well without having the best gear?

Most classes are gear dependent.

Casters are less gear dependent than melee.

Rogue and Mage. Inb4 cope.

Locks have the highest burst dmg in the game. 3x dot + shadow bolt + shadow burn is about 2k dmg in 1 second not including crits or proc from nightfall. If those line up then you can do 4-5k dmg in 2-3 sec. Only a warrior getting WF crit procs is comparable.

Druid, can do any role.

Rogue and mage.

In BGs warlocks dont really have a counter, maybe hunter. Warrior/rogue/shaman are the easiest kills for warlock, you will send those classes to the GY multiple times before they reciprocate.

The counter to warlocks in BGs is 2 players of any class, which does not work on Rogue and Mage.

The answer is vastly different if you’re talking about solo PVP or group PvP like BGs.

I said it was easier, never said it wasn’t impossible to counter for rogue. The rogues you know aren’t the average player, and for the average druid player sitting in bear form and mauling someone to death is ten times easier than kiting and not getting kidney’d out of bear.

sounds like you’ve never given the druid PvP set a try cause even with sprint they can’t catch up to you fast enough to get a restealth off

any druid that abolish poisons correctly is going to mog a rogue

Don’t listen to anyone here that didn’t say Ele shaman.

You pick tauren, because you can warstomp into lightning bolt->nature’s swiftness->chain lightning → shock of your choice. You stand at the back of the teamfight with your totems and own. You have pretty good offhealing options, it’s not super hard to understand. It looks like a lot on the action bars but it’s really not as much as people make it out to be, and while there is room for skill expression (grounding totem shenanigans) you can genuinely be an absolute menace just learning your basic burst combos.

Also, you wear mail gear with a shield so melee classes don’t straight up steamroll you either if your positioning isn’t absolutely perfect.

Oh, and here’s the absolute kicker, you raid as resto, where you put down your totems and mash chain heal for the entire raid, and then pick up all the mail caster gear that literally only you want.

I’m telling you, it’s probably the most slept on option.

(I’ve mained warrior for the majority of wow’s life cycle, I might have just sold myself on making an ele sham)

Not how armor scaling works though. Which is weird because I agree with most of what you’re saying about druid.

The reason I say mage is because imo everything really boils down to who has the most escape mechanisms vs melee. Melee is absolutely the noob killer. And mages have escape in spades.

frost mage is a fair argument but i’d argue it has a higher skill floor (with a significantly higher skill ceiling as well) which makes it less desirable as a kind of “baby’s first pvp owning class”

ele sham has a bunch of shocks that share cd so you only press the one you need, 2 damage spells (lightning bolt and chain lightning), 3 healing spells (lesser, greater, chain), purge, and your totems. And the best part is, if you’re ever worried about what you should be casting, you can just target other players and press purge, you literally cannot go wrong just mashing purge on people (in bgs).

another easy option is the cheesy destro lock spec, succubus pet with soulfire. as long as you play horde so you don’t have to deal with undead racial, there’s not many classes that can escape seduce on their own, and certainly not multiple times.
