Push. To. Talk

I constantly shove my mic over my head and forget about it.

Then I go to talk and it’s all muffled.

Drives folks bonkers.

I’ve been yelled at more times now than I can remember.

Do I still do it after being yelled at?

Oh you bet I do.

I liked him a lot. It’s odd the crap that we remember.

This must have been in either '07 or '08 but I remember his character name and even that he was a warlock main.

Those were good times. The other “friend” I was playing with is now my wife lol.

P.S.

Wish I could throw out names from those days on the forums in the hopes that I might actually get back in touch with some of the people I played with in the early days.

Alas, that would be seen as a call-out wouldn’t it?

Or, if you use Discord, just establish the ground rules up front.

I usually mute everyone who has their mic open, other than the Raid Leader

People who keep their mics open usually have nothing useful to say - they are the most self indulgent, selfish people

I signed up to play - not for your live blog

This. Set the channel for PTT. The Discord owner is hosting. Be a good host. Set channel to PTT, then make exceptions for yourself and your officer core.

Not hard.

Or as the host, set yourself and your raid lead to the “Priority” setting which means even if 40 people were talking at once, the Host and the RL can speak at regular volume and everyone else is diminished to 20% while announcements and callouts are made. Doesn’t have to be PtT, but understanding Discord helps.

This is the way. The worst are open mics with super loud keyboard typing.

Never bothered me with other players sighing or coughing. Burping w/e. I work in EMS. You could be vomiting and I’d be concerned, but OK with it.

I don’t talk with voice. Have zero desire. If that means excluding me from your content, oh well. People are so toxic online talking that I just cannot be there. It has gotten so bad in recent years. I understand why we have the Code of Conduct now.

If you cannot be professional, respectful and just be there to have fun. (Which is sadly non-existent.) Then there’s no reason for me to be involved. I’ve had some really bad experiences in the past using VOIP/voice services. Especially in PvP.

I prefer forums or text in discord. Much better that way. And if people are being disrespectful I can flag a post. Or simply just not respond.

I don’t think I will.

LOL those super stiff mechanical keyboards that make it sound like a herd of golems is riverdancing in the background.

Would be nice if the overlay just let me mute my mic. Luckily my headset has its own version - I just have to move the mic up all the way and it mutes itself. Great success.

YAAAWWWNNN!

The one that annoys me the most is the smoke detector dead battery beep going off in the background. Destroys my ears.

Yeah I use PTT for basically everything except for when I’m casually hanging out with friends. Then it’s open mic all the way.

The one that annoys me most is real life shopping centre (Australia)
There’s like a million satanic ravens in the parking lot ~CORE CORE OAAARRRR!~
Then once you get inside, it’s a maelstrom of voices speaking loudly. Like concentrate on your groceries.

But the absolute worst thing is going past their bed time, 8:30pm just before closing time, yet you’re still subjected to the shrill screams of a crying toddler. <_>

When I do it, I’m usually in the middle of saying something and it just slips. Followed by an “oh (crap), excuse me”.

I will not use push to talk. All easily accessible keys are unusable, and I play ffxiv with a controller, which doesn’t lend itself much to PTT. I don’t do anything weird but speak Swedish at my cat though. “vad sa du, gumman?” When she meows at me is hardly offensive ><

I do agree some stuff is annoying.

Exactly. The rest of the group has no desire to listen to all of that no matter how difficult it may be for the individual to push a button.

Yeah, it really drives me crazy if I have to listen to someone breathing, chewing or vaping all raid/dungeon.

In one of the guilds I was in, we had a DH tank that vaped very audibly during raid and it was SUPER annoying to listen to.

Many raiders and even officers asked him to use push to talk and his response was “I’m tanking, I don’t have time to hit a button to talk.”

So within two raids of him coming to tank for the raid team, I put the guy on mute. I was getting headaches listening to him vape and it made me feel physically ill.

A few weeks later, this tank was pouting in raid chat about how it felt like 1/2 the raid team had him muted, but refused to do anything about his open mic situation.

People like this are super annoying. If you don’t have the coordination to use PTT during tanking, maybe you should dps. Just saying, lol.
