Mechanical keyboards are pointless
Yeah I said it

I seethe with impudent rage when they say âIT TAKES TOO MUCH EFFORTâ
Well then tell your mom to also chew your food and wipe your butt as well you dingbat.
But if I donât put it on push-to-talk OP, then you wonât hear me scarf down BBQ ribs while I moan in enthusiasm as my little goblin-children shriek in the background and my A/C is going on full blast as the constant beep of my lack of replacing the fire alarm battery happens then having my wife yell at the idiot kids to the raid!
Honest answer?
Itâs because theyâre not around women IRL, most likely. Or someone theyâd have to adjust their behavior around. And that behavior leaks into the mic.
I always have fans buzzing in my room because it tends to get warm, so naturally I opt for push-to-talk so folks arenât hearing wind blasted at my mic.
I get complaints like this with my guild, but Iâm not woke enough to care, I just try to manually breath slower since I raid lead and need to be making those calls. For some of us we just have breathing difficulties, has been my whole life, I canât just magically stop it from happening.
If you hate it so much then have them change the server permissions to force push-to-talk.
My mic is pretty great, its activates on sound, but I didnt know it was picking up my keyboard sounds the other day. I cant push to talk when I am also pushing one of my 20 keybinds to heal stupid DPS standing in bad.
Agreed. The admin of the server can force PTT so people have no choice . Assuming everyone is on a discord or other voice server thatâs not wows (does anyone use the games built in voice server to any serious degree?).
âWokeâ has nothing to do with being considerate of others. This is how words lose meaning.
As an asthmatic I fully understand breathing difficulties- its one of the reasons I use push to talk- I donât expect everyone else to just sit there and endure whatever strange noises my body decides to start making without warning.
And raid leading is no excuse. I spent several expansions as a tank and raid leader while still using push to talk. It isnât hard- you just have to want to.
I also prefer open mic as long as the noise gate is working properly for everyone. If Iâm forced to PTT, youâre unlikely to hear me speak, especially in the heat of combat. I have other buttons to press, Iâm not also going to occupy a finger by holding another button.
The only time PTT was ever even close to natural to me was when I had a Logitech G600 mouse with a ring finger button. That finger wasnât doing anything useful anyway. Unfortunately I prefer wireless mice and not only has Logitech never made a wireless G600, they seem to have entirely discontinued the G600 (though it continues to be listed on their site).
Agreed, thank you⌠so many people must think we like to hear them talking to their kids⌠and others think belching into the mic is hilarious, even on the 1000th time. PS your keyboard is loud af as well, and youâre going to be offended later on when you find out I turned your volume to 0.
The only situation I use voice activation is when I play with a controller.
Basically the same thing people tell me every time I ask them to do it⌠yet the background noise continues. Our raid channel is required PTT and the tears are delicious.

Then they failed at their settings. lol
The problem isnât open mics, itâs open $9.99 Amazon mics used by people who canât be bothered to learn sound settings.
Learn to set your channels to require push to talk, simple.
Nah, i already have enough buttons to click. and sometimes i need to get something out there quick enough.
i will put my mic up during low intensity times (mutes me) but other than that i am always on.
Used to play ptt but found that I just never really spoke. Turned it off and people could actually stop making fun of me for being quiet in the crazy (I think they thought I was judging their shenanigans at the beginning lol). I try to remember to push the mute button on the side of my headset when talking to someone in my home but sometimes I forget, I donât think it irritates the people I play with as I have met some irl but I try to be considerate.
Funny enough, my headset doesnât pick up a lot on its own but when my husband talks, he uses ptt, you can hear all of the sounds of our noisy house super duper loud. I have to remind him not to talk when our youngest is laughing or being loud because it echoes in your brain for some reason.
Hi! You have undoubtedly heard of me. I am the great Nightpain, hero of the alliance, slayer of orcs, champion of Azeroth and supreme mugwump of the wizen gamot. My gameplay is legend amoung all who brave the perils of LFR and routine patrols around the capital cities.
I know, it may be a shock to hear from one such as me, and your mind will tell you that it must be a dream if you are so blessed to have me in your group / raid.
My rotation, movements, strategies and transmog are meticulously min / maxed. I am so amazing that even my flatulence is precisely choreographed to adjust my body position and relative weight for optimal DPS.
When I play with others, I choose to grace those less fortunate with a visual, and auditory, example of my greatness. Adding another button press would be ineffective and reduce my DPS by approximately 0.03% with each press, so rather that risk a less than perfect encounter, I leave my mic open so that all may bask in my glory across multiple senses.
I understand that some people may not have considered the extreme value and privilege that I offer my groups, so I felt it was best to explain it in this simple post.
Strive to do your best, optimize all your actions and always share your skills with the world via an open mic. Who knows⌠maybe one day, people will recognize you as one of the GOATs too.
And raid leading is no excuse. I spent several expansions as a tank and raid leader while still using push to talk. It isnât hard- you just have to want to.
Years ago I would agree, but now with button bloat you quickly run out of buttons and needing to tank while leading, if you are busy pressing your rotational buttons and need to use PTT it could end up being a bad day.
Used to use middle mouse. Thatâs now autorun.
Then I used control. Now thatâs a key bind modifier. As is shift.
Alt has an OS function.
Tilde is currently set for it but itâs awkward as hell to press so I just donât use it.
The day they make it mandatory in my raid channel is the day I stop using discord in raid.
