Given the recent leadership changes and the fact that Blizzard is in a very bad spot right now, PR-wise and competition-wise, this is Blizzard saying that they need to overhaul the game, which is a good thing because the legion model has long, long overstayed its welcome.
This is a cynical change that they’ve had planned for as long as they knew locked Covenants would be unpopular. Everyone gripes about Covenants but still plays cause new expansion and whatnot. Then when people start to get sick of the systems and unsub because of it, they change an unpopular system and everyone is happy with it (see; Corruption, Legiondaries, Azerite Essences).
We won’t really know which one it is for a while, but I’m hoping its the former rather than the latter.
The worst part is they couldn’t even release the blue post without throwing in shade about why they think Covenants were still a good thing. Just so frustrating.
This is what I think it is as well, I’m looking forward to seeing what the next system is that they don’t touch for a year also.
I don’t know, you’re getting the change you wanted (basically, i know there are differing opinions about the specifics). If you feel like it took too long and you’re frustrated about it I find that totally understandable.
But if you feel like you need to be personally validated by some sort of apology or mea culpa from the developers that is the kind of thing you should probably take some time and reflect on. There is a difference between being passionate about your hobby and feeling like you’re in some sort of emotional war with people you’ve likely never met who are just making an entertainment product.
Not only did it take too long, but they’ve been repeating this same cycle with different systems for six years. This is probably our biggest gripe in the ripcord community.
Trust us when when we say we are thankful for the changes coming, but, come on. We’ve been warning you about these systems, and what they do to not only high end players as everyone claims “it affects the high end players the most.” It doesn’t effect high end players the most, we’ll find away around it like we always do. It’ll affect the casuals the worst, the one’s who don’t care about the game as much as the veterans.
So, yeah. It’s nice to see changes happening in a .1 patch, but there are similar systems like this that we’ve had to wait, complain, and finally get changed at the end of expansion where it doesn’t even matter anymore.
I would have been fine if it was like 95 percent an aesthetic choice. Signature stuff like the steward are fine, it’s the whole trying to make an artifact weapon type power and expecting them to all perform the same. Don’t get me wrong I love the kyrian bell but it’s also an integral part of my rotation as well as tied to my bis Lego. I’m fine with my paladin being kyrian but where exactly was the choice?
I remember in the Preach interview that Ion said that’d it’d basically be impossible now to create a Ripcord. Then, all of a sudden sub numbers drop, and here come the great changes.
We should honestly thank the people who left the game to play something else, without them, I doubt we would’ve got these changes at all, if ever.
I think you should take a look in the mirror here friend. Sounds like you’re projecting.
His statement wasn’t malicious, they clearly didn’t want to make the change but did it anyway.
The concern is that they will still make the same mistake next expansion, not some selfish need for Blizzard to prostrate themselves.
Its cool that you learned that word but it isn’t applicable. I made an if statement about what it seemed like someone was stating, but if I misinterpreted their meaning that is fine. That is why it is an if statement.
Timba, I just wanna say, you did it, while the changes are still not “Perfect”, personally I’d love to see covenants swap as quick as a talent choice, I believe this thread that’s been going on for a year had some sort of input on their decision…
Well this thread and the mass exodus of players, so a little congrats and thanks where is needed, so thank you.
There is a difference between wanting an apology, and wishing that when there was a change it could be delivered in a more gracious manner as befitting a corporation that you wish was more professional.
The Dev team has a long and storied history of this level of commentary. It wears on one.
It is Blizzard that turns it into an emotional war, not the players. They are the ones that present the information in the way they do, as if it is worthy of praise and not a change that should have happened 3 weeks after release, when the overwhelming feedback told them it was wanted.
Cycle after cycle, the same thing happens. In legion, they atleast fixed the problems one patch in, where the relics became relatively farmable, and the legendaries became accessible rather than capped at 4. In BFA it was slightly longer to fix, and whether or not it was actually “fixed” is questionable anyway. Now in legion, they’ve held it for so long that I’m not sure anyone actually cares anymore. The only reason I’m here is because at one point I was invested in this being fixed and I still have time on my account, but you’ll see if you look at my profile that I haven’t actually done anything in the game for many months now.
Their system design and iteration process is not changing, it’s staying the same and getting worse; specifically, taking longer. 3 expansions in a row now, it has been almost the same exact process, in lengthening time scale. Blizzard releases a broken system, players give immediate and large amounts of feedback; Blizzard ignores it, and furthermore, tells players they are wrong. Players continue to dislike the given system, player numbers fall away, Blizzard eventually reneges and changes the system but far too late to be reasonable, while touting it as this wonderful change that they should be praised for.
It’s an abusive cycle; they abuse their players’ good will and time. It’s done now; it’s too late. I’m not going to give them the benefit of the doubt a third time.
