PSA: How to ignore forum users

This post was about ignoring forum users with private profiles, correct?

LFG’s posts were voicing support for Anti-RDF in the midst of a Pro-RDF wave of pressure on Blizzard, correct?

Tfw no one else agrees with you

DUDE, THAT MUTING OPTION IS MONEY.

Tracking > Muted

Holy crap. GAME CHANGER

Dunno, ask everyone else here. If they agree, sure!

So moderation only applies when the person is doing something considered unpopular against the rules (by an arbitrary group of like 12 forum regulars). GOT IT.

Ty for your clarification on that stance.

You can keep being a wise guy, but you’re literally doing the exact same thing LFG does hahaha, hiding behind technicalities.

You’re the one who said it was subjective.

That’s basically how moderation against trolling has to work, if trolling is subjective as you say.

Only if people actually use it, which I doubt they will.

Sure, but a handy little PSA on a new thread listing options for people who do not wish to engage never hurts!

I, too, can respond to a random part of a random post of yours from 45 minutes ago because I don’t want to respond to your last one.

You’re like the textbook definition of pride

Except I did.

It started out as a handy PSA, but it has quickly turned into a witch hunt and harassment of another user.

You’re following “principles” way too blindly and robotically. Yes, biases are bad, and creating victims based on immutable traits is horrible. But we’re talking about moderation based on reputation and allowing communities to voice what they want to allow on their platform. It isn’t “big tech” or “tyranny” or whatever if a community collectively decides they’re sick of a bad actor, sends reports to moderation, and the person gets banned or some other punishment. It’s one thing if it’s completely automated and x number of flags = ban no matter what, but when you can actually read what LFG says/what he does, it’s extremely clear to anyone who isn’t playing devil’s advocate that he’s just here to grief.

People could also just, you know, ignore/report/not engage the trolls too.

Technology doesn’t have to take the wheel on everything. Be adults.

What other user? Nobody said a single name until a defender decided to name someone.

We were all choosing whoever we wanted and were thankful for the information.

I dont need to list anyone by name, I have added 15 names to the list and will now mute threads on my own volition.

You answered your own question:

and after naming someone, accusations start flooding in. This is why when someone gets named, it usually ends up in thread deletion. It almost always starts a witch hunt and harassment. Note, I’m not accusing you of anything, just merely commenting on my observations of what the thread generally has led to.

No, just like you’ve been doing the whole time, you responded (in an edit) to one tiny bit of it, totally out of context of what I was saying. Seriously, these tactics and the unwillingness to concede that you’re logically inconsistent in your desire for unequal moderation, and to use every excuse in the book for one person then say “don’t believe LFG’s excuses! He’s using technicalities and deserves to be banned” are ridiculous. There is NOTHING coming out of you in good faith, except your clear dislike for LFG. Talk about blatant utilitarianism, ew.

I like you Confidence, genuinely. I’ve talked to you a bit on here and think you’re a nice person.

However, what I quoted isn’t true. The guy is here to be a contrarian and get attention. That’s it. Not to fight for a cause. Even if you agree with some of what he says. You can see that’s true once you find comments that contradict.

There are other threads where people who don’t want RDF are being totally honest with their reasons and are not just trying to stir stuff up.

… and on the topic of the thread the only thing the OP could have done differently is to use a random name to blurt out but I’m pretty sure this was meant to be a simple education thread. People have been asking how to ignore posters the whole time I’ve been here (3 years) and this overall is good information with the screenshots.

There is nothing wrong at all with ignoring trolls, this is the way things should be done as they feed on attention. There’s also nothing wrong with using the ignore feature for anyone you don’t want to hear from.

That’s all I really wanted to say, it’s nice to see you defending people but I don’t agree with your direction on this one. Honest and real posters are being bullied in other threads, it would be better to defend them.

It absolutely shouldnt be deleted. The person trying to defend started naming.

None of us violated anything. Ban the defender, delete their post and move on.

And paints anyone who agrees with that person as an “alt?” Yeah, he’s got a lot of alts, but there are a hell of a lot of people who agree with the Anti-RDF sentiments.

Yes, it’s extremely clear what he’s doing. And if you want to ban him for that? Go ahead. But it’s also abundantly clear what the OP of this thread is doing, and it’s the same thing as LFG. So ban him/her/other, too.

I don’t think either should be banned, but then again, I’m not the one calling for the ban of one but not the other
