PSA: flagging is NOT a downvote button

Looks like nothing has changed.

Blizzard is a private company
1A does not apply to it
Flagging = Censorship is the new way of silencing other because our opinions doesn’t match.
Welcome to the new world

I would like to throw my hat in the ring to be a moderator.

You get a ban! You get a ban! You all get a ban!

I think the take away is that we need a downvote button. Was there one at one point? It’s still a decent gauge for where sentiment truly lies.

Do you not remember what happened with downvotes when they were a thing?

I came just to see if this post was flagged into oblivion, was not disappointed.

no it’s not. it just turns into a popularity contest with people going in and causing your posts to be buried because they don’t like you.

Yes, and it upset ppl so it was removed. lol

Ironic I know.

:sparkles:

See how the OP here is hidden? That’s what downvotes did on the old forums. They were not intended just for disagreeing. It was a way for posters to shove troll threads into a corner until a mod showed up.

you simply are not aware of the secret CoC section where anything that disagrees with me is actionable

The arguments they made for removing the dislike button were at best senseless (basically, “oh, we didn’t intend for the DISLIKE button to be used for things you disliked”), at worst, disingenuous. While the “reasonable” arguments are there - “we want to foster a more positive community,” the cynics can just as easily say, “you only did this because you continually make egregiously anti-player decisions, and all your defenders are routinely left in a smoking crater of downvotes.”

In the end, there’s not enough time left between now and the heat death of the universe to vivisect every terrible thought, expression, or opinion on the internet. Expecting otherwise is simply not realistic. These forums are no different. If I can express support for a view/post with a simple button press, I shouldn’t need more for the contrary.

Given quite a few of the “theories” people have about this game, actually typing out why they’re wrong about Tyrande actually being Ragnaros nephew in disguise is kind of a waste of time. I’d like to believe we all should have our opinions heard but, some people on these forums just are not worth anything more than a report for trolling.

I still think we need a system similar to ESO where you create a forum avatar which is the only one available to your account. It is not connected in any way with your gaming characters, so people can’t make judgements about you, potentially harass you ingame or hide behind multiple alts when flagging something.

And flagging should go. Bring back manual complaint filing through a more time-consuming manual input where you have to explain exactly what it is that you find offensive etc. Up/down votes will always be simply something people follow herd-like so I think votes should be done away with altogether.

Ultimately, nobody has to read a post or even comment. You can Mute anything you don’t want to see and Ignore posters whose comments you don’t want to view.

Wait, you already made this thread a year ago? Flagged for spamming.

because it was basically just used to harass and silence a group of posters. me and several other posters would just instantly get every single one of our threads buried regardless of the title, content, mannerism, etc unless it was in agreement with what was popular opinion.

I make it my mission to click into every thread and if I see something problematic or something that I think requires a trigger warning or may upset someone, I flag it.

Better to bury a 1000 posts than to risk the self esteem and feelings of one person.

I wouldn’t change the options at all, but I would add the Incorrect forum option.

And now the flag option has replaced it, and is abused - so maybe they should simply remove the forums all together since it seems no one is happy with the system.
