PSA: "account wide" essences

You’ve misread.

If one of your characters has a rank 3, any of your other characters will be able to SKIP ranks 1 and 2 of that essence.

Tbh, Even if it took the same amount of time or even slightly longer, I’ll be content.

I can grind this currency for weeks doing what I want. I couldn’t grind out 120k honor (for alts that want BotE) in bgs, and still have a desire to play the game at all afterwards.

I don’t think that’s correct. If you look at the blue post announcing this the other day, it specifically says:

The only thing that your alt will have to do is get to a point where they can do…

…because that’s where the currency needed to buy the essences comes from.

What they meant was that grinding the new currency to get the rank 3 on an alt may take just as long as if the alt were to grind up to rank 3 via that essence’s requirements. I really hope this isn’t the case.

:woman_shrugging:

Guess we’ll have to see how much currency we get and how fast.

Sooo…. take this cookie and shut up.

That’s the question of the day.

It was a planned cookie at least.
They’ve done this for several expansions now.

Lol right? Not sure why everyone’s reacting

It’s why we’re calling them account earned essences

I like it. It’s sort of a kiosk. Love those. This ia definetly a step in the right direction for alts.

It could be that.

Or it could be that the final wing of LFR (the difficulty with the most players) was coming up soon and if you don’t have the cloak you instantly get mind controlled and can’t participate in the fight?

Your claims have no support. And demanding “proof” where you have no evidence to support your claim is kind of short sighted.

Players like to blame other players. Devs are fine with players blaming other players for bad design decisions. Devs don’t listen to thousands of random complaints and pick out one to implement a solution for.

It sounds like whatever the rate is for getting the currency vs buying the essence will also be in series right?

Hypothetically if it takes 2 weeks to buy this essence using the new currency it would take 4 weeks to buy 2 essences.

Which with that much of a lag you may as well work on the others in parallel.

They don’t talk to the forum community, they’re jerks.

They talk to the community, they’re jerks.

You’re certainly a reasonable type of person.

Really wish people would quote what they’re responding to so I can prove them wrong.

In order to make any claim, you need proof.

I have.

Oh totally, my main takeaway from this change is that I’ll be able to circumvent the more egregious grinds and focus more on the things I actually want to do. I’ll still acquire the essences from my avenues of play the old fashioned way unless I’m just swimming in currency. Like im not going to buy focusing iris on my m+ alts and so on.

The claim to which I am responding is that devs react to forum complaints and swiftly produce solutions. Well, they react to some forum complaints while ignoring most of them.

The fact is that there are a great many forum complaints about many different player pet peeves. The idea that this or that complaint resulted in a very short period of time in a “fix” that probably took months to create is not reasonable.

It is also not reasonable, though I hear it often on the forums, that “devs made x change responding to [some random forum complaints] and this has been really bad for the game”. When asked for evidence the best they can come up with is one thread from 10 years back.

Blizzard says they don’t use forums to get feedback, and I believe them. Changes they make to the game have to do with their vision of the game in the future, and for the most part they ignore player feedback. Only when participation is not meeting their goals do they make changes from that track.

Is it that players like to think what they say is more important (way more important) in the grand scheme of things than it actually is? Or is it that players would rather blame other players than ask what is going on behind the curtain?

There is no evidence that complex new systems that would take months to create magically get created and implemented within a few days.

And in any case, remember those nerfs for tanks and healers in horrific visions? There was very little demand on the forum. Every time a tank or healer said it was much harder to do them, they were absolutely trashed by forum trolls, There were a great many anti-healer and anti-tank threads on the topic. The forum consensus was that tanks and healers were a bunch of whiners who should be forced to main dps specs before they would be permitted to tank or heal. That was a clear consensus on the forum. Yet it was nerfed. Why? Participation numbers for tanks and healers were not meeting projections.

This game is run by templates and spreadsheets that attempt to simulate fun. Don’t kid yourself. They don’t care what we want until it comes back to bite them.

So, I think you’ve entirely misconstrued everything I’ve stated as we are in agreement for most of what you’ve said in fact.

I’ve stated all along that they would have account wide essences at the end of the expansion as this has been their track record for years now.

Is where we disagree.
You’re angry and jaded and therefore have no real way to actually understand what is going on on the other side because you are too emotionally invested.

The developers in fact do care, nobody would work in those conditions unless they were passionate and cared about the work they were doing. The pay is nowhere near worth the hassle developers have to go through.

They’ve also been responsive to forums in the past but I definitely agree they do not take JUST the forum feedback before changing anything.

‘Mains’, ‘alts’, ‘raiders’ and ‘casuals’ are not in-game categorizations so they cannot be recognized and counted.

No, they cannot be determined either. Issues that muddy the waters just off the top of my head:

  1. players who don’t have ‘mains’ and ‘alts’
  2. players who rotate their ‘mains’
  3. ‘casuals’ who raid
  4. ‘raiders’ who play several ‘mains’
