Priest leveling professions

I know enchanting is good for wands, but I worry its too $$ to do enchanting while leveling. For this purpose I’m thinking tailoring and herbalism (just for a little gold on the side). Thoughts, or would enchanting be better. I just wanna make sure I have plenty saved for 40 respect and mount.

I plan on going enchanting/tailoring even though i’m a hunter.

Idea is that it will be most efficient while leveling. I don’t need to waste time picking resources or skinning, nor do I have to worry about “outleveling” my gathering skills.

I want to go engineering, but it’s a money sink not gain. Tailoring/enchanting is a money gain. People will want bags. Things I make I can just sell anyways and buy leather/mail… and all the quest rewards to disenchant.

When I have enough money, and a mount, I can go back and level engineering easily.

yeah I am fully sold on tailoring, I just have read that enchanting can turn into quite the money sink too, so I’m just torn if a gather profession would serve best while leveling, then a swap to enchanting, ugh the decisions!!

Enchanting while leveling isn’t a money sink since you can disenchant the quest rewards.

If you go, say, mining.. what will happen is unless you dedicate time to mining inbetween leveling you will outlevel your mining skill and won’t be able to continue to gather in higher level zones, so having mining while leveling does allow you to gather as you go, but you won’t find enough unless you seek it out to keep the skill up. Lvl 1 miner can’t mine thorium like retail.

With tailoring, you get linen from mobs so even if you don’t have the profession up to the skill level you can store the mats for later.

very very good points, I appreciate it!

I’m always surprised by crafting professions. I always just do gathering and sell.

You can make more money by crafting than gathering.

It’s the long tail.

Say you have a bunch of copper ore to sell. Well, that’s only one product. Maybe a lot of it, but not many people are looking to buy 2,000g of copper ore right now.

But, if instead, you have 200 different items for auctions for 10g each, they will sell more rapidly, and you replenish the ones that sell.

Even with all the buying you have to do to make stuff? Especially later in the game.

My memory as a raid priest in Vanilla was needing herb/alchemy to make pots and more pots and more pots. Mana pots all high GG… OOM huge issue then.

Vanilla definitely not like expansions, in that you will need the crafts/gathers to survive/raid/PvP/whatever. Whatever is left over is gravy.

enchanting/tailoring while leveling. at 60 then either keep tailoring and make bags especially if your an alt-aholic having bags coming out your ears is a good thing and they will forever sell well on AH. or if you have an alt that will farm herbs give up tailor for alch. as just the arcanite transmutes are good money over time and the pots/flasks/elixers will always sell with high profit low effort.

Tailoring and enchanting isn’t really valuable. They’re expensive to level with little to no profit (unless you have a rare pattern) and the only exclusive thing you gain from them is your epic robes (too expensive and replaced later), bloodvine set bonus (spriests don’t need crit), and smoking heart of the mountain (druid tank trinket). The rest is BOE and you can have someone else craft it.

Highly recommend you go alchemy and herb; at least while leveling.

I never found it hard to level enchanting while questing. A lot of greens you get for quest rewards that you can’t use, just DE it. Random green drops, DE it! Running a dungeon and everyone is rolling “Need” on everything, do the same and DE it!

I found that blues are worth more broken down into DE components than selling (if it’s a BoE)

Best is to skip professions till lvl 60 unless you enjoy doing them.
