Pretty bummed about BG implementation

I’ve been pvping a lot, and slowly watching your faction overpower mine. Fewer and fewer horde venture out of cities. Winterspring, Felwood, Azshara, Tanaris, and WPL are regularly camped by guilds like pupper pals so that when someone lands they are killed instantly even if worth no honor.

We fight back, but like I said every day there have been fewer of us. It was my hope that small crossrealm BGs would give me a way to have the competitive PvP I’ve missed since vanilla.

Instead, it’s identical to retail, with even worse world pvp. shrugs

Battle grounds is nothing but an improvement imho.

World PvP is awful.

There are no battle groups, everyone in the region from pvp, pve, rp, and rppvp are all going to be available to play with each other. And what I was saying is that if you want to bring in a raid of people from your guild, which you can’t actually do because you are capped to parties for classic, is that all the engaging 5 man groups (from said 40 man) queue snipe each other. And you do that by clicking to enter the queue and by accepting the queue at the same time. Then that exists a high chance that you could get the majority of your intended 40 man to actually be in the same AV raid. Maybe only getting 25, 30, or 35 people.

I recall when battlegroups were implemented to reduce queue times there eventually arose people from the other servers you would recognize often. Can’t say this will be the same with the larger population now, but I wouldn’t write off BGs completely devoid of a community presence.

Time-gated means that you are prevented from finishing something earlier than expected. Time-limited is the actual word you should use.

I remember pvping on my rogue in vanilla before CRBGs. On my server in particular it was awful. Id be queued for 45 minutes or more. I remember times where id queue and go do BRD till it popped and just leave me group because i didnt know if id see another bg for the rest of the day. Then they introduced CRBGs and i actually got to pvp again. I learned new names and new servers but started seeing the same ones.

Maybe CRBGs will come out and they will change it later to be battle groups so its only 3 servers or so

Please keep in mind we have an example to draw from. Log into retail for an afternoon, and run BGs. You will see exactly what the “Community” is like when it’s one lump of faceless players.

That isn’t anything at all like classic, and it brings out the worst in people. I’ve watched this play out in Legion, and BfA. It absolutely will happen in classic, because you’re dealing with the same playerbase.

One giant community isn’t a community at all. It’s a mob.

Kind of surprised by how many people completely missed the point.

I’m on the fence. As someone playing on a 7:3 Alliance server I know CR queues will be much more tolerable.

Though I still remember almost every nemesis I had in vanilla and I too hate that it won’t be a thing.

I agree with this original post. We’ve spent the last 4 weeks battling the same people in the world. We’ve made friends and enemies. Now it won’t matter anymore. Cross realm BGs are here and it’s a bunch of random nobodies to battle. YES, you can battle beside the same realm friends and guildies but the enemies will not be the same at all.

I quit retail because the server community of my favorite server died completely. The classic server community will in no way die over this but it is still like losing something.

You can queue as a raid.

If even then, why would you want to. You have to wait in the queue longer and then you go against other premades (thus lowering your honor per hour). Queue sniping to take advantage of uncoordinated pugs to get around 10 minute (the touted number is 9 minutes) AV wins is the best way for ranking.

But you have a good point, if you want try and coordinate a war game with Horde on your server.

Premade vs premade is some of the most fun. Idc about honor.

I agree. World PvP phase was the best phase ruined by crybabies

True, and its the most organic fun way to play. Sadly people won’t see it that way until the first few people get rank 14.

I couldn’t AGREE WITH YOU MORE!!! I’m so pissed off that blizzard is doing cross realm BGS that’s BS and it just makes it so the community aspect of the game is furthermore screwed…

Exactly. You got respect from your nemesis’s too if you were climbing like myself. Now its going to be just like retail. Go figure.

I share the same feelings as OP.
There was REALLY something special and irreplaceable with server wide BGs. You’d see the same people in the BGs, and even seeing the same player on the opposite faction in BGs over and over again created a real sense of community. There would always be that ONE player on the opposite faction you’d always see que for BGs, and you’d target them because they killed you a few BGs ago-- And then you have the opportunity to see them in the open world again. It really created great competition because it became personal.
Why are they giving us retail BGs? Because they screwed up server balance and now the customer has to pay for Blizzard’s mistakes.

I recall in Vanilla there were threads titled, “Arathi Basin 30 - 39” on your server forum and folks from the server could post stories and/or trash talk the other faction, all on the same server. Those threads would reaches hundreds and hundreds of posts. Then, you would see those posters in the game on your server and have a little extra incentive to destroy them due to their trash talking on the forums.

Talk about a community. Those were the good ol’ days.

I think at this point rather than trying to treat individual players as nemeses, the community should shift to servers taking up that role. Like in the past oh there is that orc hunter who always was running me down and kiting me (and making me mad), to “oh look at what we got here, a zoomer from Faerlina”. That’s at least how I am going to view it and have had lived it for several years on retail (like disliking Horde from Tichondrius for example).

I still do enjoy picking out the mirrors (mainly pallies in MoP CM set) and overperformers from the other side and hounding them.

Um… They announced cross-realm bgs months ago, before Classic was even released.
