I came to Classic to be part of a community. The primary problem with BfA is that there’s no reason to group. No reason to talk. No reason to make friends.
When I played in vanilla my fondest BG experiences were when it was just our server. I got to know the other faction, and they got to know us. Queue times weren’t amazing, though, so they introduced battlegroups.
It was never the same, but at least the battlegroups were fairly small, and there was a still a chance to get to know people.
Now? You queue with everyone across your entire faction, on all servers. You’ll be with RPers, PvEers, and PvPers. Premades will have an endless sea of victims, and the odds of you seeing the same person twice is slim.
I’ve played a lot of retail BGs. A LOT, just like most you. I can count the number of times I ran into the same person on one hand. There’s no community.
So, world PvP is borked. BGs will have no community. I feel like they’ve missed the mark, and it’s pretty much going to be exactly the same as retail. Soulless.
EDIT: If the forums are any indication, then no one wants a pvp community. I don’t know why I’m surprised. Confirmation that this isn’t an experience made for me or people like me, I guess.

I was looking forward to playing battlegrounds on a pve server where I could either fight with or against my friends on the same server.

Fully agreed brother, CRBG’s are a cancer upon Classic WoW.

What exactly is stopping you from eventually seeing familiar names and premades?
Oh thats right…nothing.

The size of the player pool. If 5,000 people across 2 servers are in one pool, and another pool is 1,500,000 players which one do you think is more likely to have you run into the same names and premades?

There is nothing stopping you from forming your groups, you don’t have to solo queue.

You’re completely missing the point. I want to get to know my opponents, like I did in Vanilla.
Right now I can make groups in retail, too. It’s not the same.

what community lmao? There is no community on half the servers here. id rather lose “community” than have to have rank 14 mafias on my server, and win traders. Thats the only community ull get.

If they’re going to make battlegroups, they should still do bgs without them first so they can get a better idea how many players on each faction on each server are queuing for bgs.
That way, they can divide the battlegroups up more evenly.

I ran into the same people all the time in retail random bgs. I dont see why you think you wont in classic.

Go look at the YouTube videos of win traders in action. The only community here is the cheaters. And that community no one needs or wants except those cheaters.

It’s way way way deeper than that man.
Getting to know who’s who on your server, who’s good, who’s bad, who’s creative and interesting… That’s a very unique and “Vanilla” experience that can only be had in the local server BG’s.
Knowing your enemy players and what their strategies are, how they play; yes individually, and even knowing their builds close enough and how to do battle vs them…
These are the things that local server BG’s give you.
CRBG’s are soulless because they have none of that… You may learn the names of a few players maybe a hand full if you’re lucky but it’s NOTHING like Local server BG’s, I assure you it’s not even close.
I put a lot of time into Vanilla Local server BG’s and a lot of time into CRBG’s in 3 expansions…
CRBG’s are not the same and they can NEVER be as good.

Win trading is against the rules and get’s reported and in turn players get banned…
This is one of the perks of playing on REAL Blizzard servers, they do actually ban outright cheaters even if its slow.
TRUST ME they get banned…
BUT CRBG’s promote Q dodging, this is every bit as bad and unfortunately not bannable.

just look at whose consistently bracket 1 if you want to know who’s good…?
I don’t think the forums are the best indication, but I do think that there are several indications that many people are not willing to put in much or any work to develop communities.
Or, perhaps not the style of community that I personally imagined and was hoping for. There are active server discord groups, and guilds, and subreddits, etc.
What would you define as community? What would you like to see different?
That is not a representation of skill… That is a representation of who’s in a pre-made roll group and has time for that.
