Are you living under a rock? smh
Oh no no no. I was talking about when flying was initially introduced. When we got flying in BC it wasn’t a controversy at all.
WoD’s whole “no flying going forward” was the second biggest misstep the devs ever made (the first would be the whole real ID name fiasco).
As was I and I only remember people being excited for it.
Honestly, I can’t express how little I care what Preach’s stance is upon flying and pathfinder…
I understand now.
The devs who developed flight were gradually replaced by those who thought flight was a mistake that should never have happened, that the game took a wrong turn after classic by introducing quality of life improvements desired by customers, when in fact they think it should have taken a hardcore turn.
I do believe you’re exactly right.
What I hate about Pathfinder is the artificial timegates. You want people to grind something out? Don’t lock rep gains behind dailies, WQs, or missions with 24hr cooldowns just because. Don’t lock Pathfinder Part 47 behind a content patch that will come 6 months later.
You want people to grind something inane out? Just have it be there in the game.
I respectfully disagree with you. I do not mind flying in classic, but this is because that is the expectation of that game. However, I love flying in retail. It allows me to explore from a different perspective and I would hate to have that ability taken away.
And I have said it before regarding what you said about Preach’s comment - I agree with his stance. And games like GW2 nail flying (well gliding until mounts in the 2nd expac).
In GW2, anyone can glide if they have a glider (get one for free I believe if you bought the 1st expac). But as the content goes, if you choose to invest experience gains and mastery points into gliding, guess what? You get noticeably better at it which actually impacts your gameplay and opens up new avenues within the game.
The success of Classic and backlash of Immortal goes to show that despite their intentions, Blizzard doesn’t actually know what players want. They keep trying to force things and saying it’s the best way and it’s what everyone really wants (“despite what they may think they want”, which is very arrogant to say), but it keeps backfiring. I’m sure they didn’t expect WoD to tank, and they keep boasting on BFA even though a lot of people are dissatisfied with it. They don’t seem to understand that either and claim it’s because people are so passionate about it. Just like they thought everyone wanted to use their phone to play Diablo and were shocked (shocked) to find out that wasn’t t the case.
Flying is just another one of those things. They say it’s not what people want or it should be done their way, but as far as anyone can tell, the numbers dropped with WoD and a lot of people are angry about pathfinder.
I am convinced Blizzard’s successes are flukes. This is not to say they are devoid of actual talent; quite the opposite. But as you said, they have no idea what makes their games (or A game) successful and good. They are amazing technically when it comes to little details but they fail woefully at the big picture.
They lack vision.
Like I find it c r a z y that, after 4 (FOUR!) expansions, two of which had major hype BECAUSE of flying (TBC and Cata), they made the decision to have NO flying in WoD. How insane is that to totally misread your own freaking game and gamerbase???
Agreed. You can actually see this with the success of Classic. People were clamoring for that, and the numbers don’t lie. Just as with wanting that style of play, people all over say they are not playing because of pathfinder and the flying restrictions. Any time a patch or expansion is mentioned on non-WoW forums, people always ask if pathfinder is gone, then say they’re not interested when the answer is no. And the feedback on here is obviously well known.
They said people thought they wanted Classic but really didn’t, which turned out to be false. And I remember people were desperately wanting flying before it was even allowed, just as they are now angry that they have to wait and jump through hoops to unlock it. It makes you wonder how many people would jump back in if it was unrestricted again.
It’s surprising in a way that they try to appeal to all these different types of people and making it easily accessible, claiming they want to invite everyone in, then they have the most bizarre restrictions in place and try to force their way onto others. Literally going against what people actually say they want.
In your mind maybe lol. What I do remember is throwing every boe item I happened to find on the Ah, and doing every daily I could find just to get enough gold to purchase the cheap flight, and the cheap slow flying mount. And plenty of others doing the same thing. Controversy lmao.
I can see flying when it was first introduced being an issue but in all the time I have played the game from late Wrath to WoD, flying just wasn’t an issue in game or on the forum. Sure you would see a post once or twice a year about it but that doesn’t make it an issue.
Then go play Classic.
Seriously dude. We shouldn’t have to tell you this in every flying thread.
I play both and there’s nothing you can do about it😂
Flying wouldn’t be such a big deal if the way to unlock it was meaningful content doing the same 3 world quests everyday “I’V COLLECTED…I’VCOLLECT…COLLECT” SHUT UP you giant turtle…
If it was do all the story quests and then do some dungeons and maybe do some group content or play 1 battleground anything else… I aint someone who plays PVP but i’d play it if there was something behind it i wanted. But logging on everyday to do the same 5-7 quests hearing the same f’ing lines about supplies or baby turtles or anything…it drains people it aint seeing the content anymore it’s rushing to max level rushing all rep grinds then…profit?
It didnt hurt BC or Wrath but it did hurt many hardcore Vanilla players, its original playerbase. As they kept adding too much casual QoL features, the social aspect in vanilla dissapeared eventually.
I hope in the future they make a new expansion with Flying in mind to kinda give the pro flying crowd its turn to enjoy once again the game the way it was for 4 expansions in a row.
Please learn to form your own thoughts and opinions OP instead of depending on others to think for you.
That is crazy dangerous to let anyone do.
And please consider that the OP was quoting a source and agreeing with the content of that source. If I read a book and enjoy aspects of the book, is it therefore somehow redifining my thought patterns to discuss what was raised in the book?
While I don’t base my opinions on streamers and what they say, any outside source can provide an insight I didn’t have before. There is nothing inherently wrong with agreeing with something written or spoken or filmed by someone else. Somebody might agree with these words I just typed. Who knew??!!
