Preach's stance on flying and pathfinder

So no flying in the first 2-2.5 years vs flying existing for the past 12 years?

Flying has worked for MUCH longer than no flying worked.

Preach is just a regular person, who cares what they think.

That isn’t how it works any more than saying “just take the bus” to someone saying cars pollute too much.

I don’t like people falling out of the air in PvP and being able to easily escape via air. I don’t like that the most efficient form of gameplay on all characters is to skydive your target then leave via the same route. I enjoy a world where I regularly run into, and run alongside, other players. These are issues that extend beyond me and will not go away simply by me not having flight.

It’s fine if you don’t think those are important issues. But to deny that flight has any issues at all, or that all of those issues are negated by simply personally choosing to stay grounded, is to be disingenuous.

That being said. Flying cannot be removed. The cat is out of the bag. I’m accepting of that. I am accepting that others enjoy flight (although i don’t). To that end I think flight should be available sooner. Kul Tiras and Zandalar should have been flyable with Pathfinder 1.

Cool, play Classic.

Fair enough. My problem isn’t pathfinder or that we don’t have flying the very second we hit max level (my preference) but the extreme time gate on flying. Even if it isn’t spite from the devs the length of the time gate FEELS spiteful.

I could even better accept flying unlocking with the .1 patch but the .2 patch is just way too long.

The answer is simple, if you dont like flying don’t do it or go play Classic, perfect solution.

Per character gold purchasable flying and Pathfinder can co-exist. Allow players to purchase flying for gold on a per character basis if they so choose, if not then they can do Pathfinder which will unlock it account wide for free, but will also be time gated behind long rep grinds and gated behind waiting on content drops.

BFA is a perfect example of why Pathfinder time gating sucks, We spent over a year on the ground for zero reason, the old saying “We want you to see the content.” is fine for the first MAYBE 4-6 months, when your force grounded for over a year…thats just being ignorant to your playerbase.

But again, if you think flying ruins the game so much, no one is forcing you to fly, you can literally not get on a flying mount and get the experience you want. No one forces you to fly, people do force other not to fly though and that is where the problem is.

I agree totally. I may not like flight, but other people do and deserve to play the game the way they enjoy just as much as I do.

But I still think the game woulda been better without it :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

And who is that?

This right here says it all. “If it annoys everyone a little bit, its probably better than the alternatives.” he says.

Very wrong perspective, and one I would expect from a lawyer. If that many of your die hard fans (they are at blizzcon afterall) boo you, then you are doing it wrong and there is a better solution.

edit: oh wow I didn’t know I can post links.

Really that is better ? I actually avoid doing dungeons because I hate travelling to them.

Yes, what he doesn’t realize people put up with one or two annoyances but they keep on adding up soon the game just becomes a series of annoyances that are a lot better just avoided and people find another game.

I get it. I wish everyone was pro flying like me but what can ya do? I may get harsh with my opinion sometimes but taking a step back I get why some would like no flying. I don’t like the dungeon queue or LFR but have accepted they exist and no amount of pushing or reasoning will make it go away.

I just remember the sheer amount of joy I had the first time I took flight in BC. I thought I was hot stuff. I’ve never lost that feeling of joy when I get to fly places. Flying in wow is smooth and simple. I’ve not play any other game where flying feels as good as wow.

Classic is a perfect example of how terrain should be designed where players have no flight, or even no mount for much of the game.

Wow designers failed to even do that.

Actually it was a huge controversy. You must not have been paying attention at the time. There were months and months of pro and anti-flight threads. The pro-flight threads disappeared, while the anti-flight trolling threads never disappeared.

And then, when the final announcement was made on a holiday weekend on an obscure website, the forums erupted in outrage.

Lots of people left the game right there. They had been waiting and hoping for flight. Not only were their hopes dashed, but the devs admitted they had been lying to us all along, and they never intended to consider bringing back flight.

It was the beginning of the sub slide that continues to this day, and no doubt will go on until devs who want to build an audience rather than purify the game of undesirable paying customers gain control.

They have to target someone with their animosity. It just happens to be us.
