Preach and Asmon are both done

The style. The elements. Those stupid floating fat cat marshmellows with balls on the heads. Those things which just makes it difficult to take it seriously. And I don’t know about the rest of the game but when a character is thinking or making a thought comment, I don’t need a lullaby playing in the background. Yes its boring, I don’t need a music que.

What depth? Left foot in and out in AoE markers, Stack, spread, and look away with the occasionally quick time mech. That’s all the game has. Nothing about XIV had depth. It was tailored for baby’s first MMO.

The moogles have been recurring characters in Final Fantasy since FF3. They are indeed a more comical-based race, but not everything have to be doom and gloom and grim dark all the time, there is more than enough of that in Final Fantasy too.

Arh, of course… turning off the music can be hard.

I watched a bit of Preach’s video. He said he’s pulling back and focusing on community stuff. If he returns to WoW it will be if they make changes. Not just the scandal but the quality of the game which somedays I think means he’ll never be back but hopefully something wakes the company up.

Oh, you’re one of those people. Got it. You know the people who think bad design is up to the players to fix. Bad music, well turn off the music silly. I had the same sort of conversation in GW2 that I didn’t like their encounter design with one reason (and I don’t like it even solo play) being that abilities and spells are overly flashy that when you get a large group together its just a flashing rainbow screen. Well turn off effects silly. Well here’s my question, why does a game have problem music and effects? Why don’t they just have none. Turn it off game wide if that’s the sole solution. Save that money.

I get that you’re a fan of FFXIV but you’ve evaded simple questions about the game and criticism with such an elitist attitude on all fronts. The story is just so layered I couldn’t possibly explain it in such a limiting space such as the internet. Oh, you don’t like JRPG will its not a JRPG and those elements are there only because of its long JRPG history. Enjoy it, man. Glad for you. Totally overblow and overhyped. Like so many other games I’ll enjoy the gnashing of teeth or painful cries when it comes. And it always comes.

To be fair, I get what he’s saying. You may think it’s bad music while several others may think it’s great. Just because 1 person dislikes something does not mean it’s necessarily “bad design.” And “turning off the music” is the quickest and most simple answer if music bothers someone that much.

That is my lot in life, to be a butthole to buttholes.

Eventually. But FFXIV have been growing for years now, rather than shrinking… unlike a certain other game people seem so defensive about.

Spoken like someone who always choses the easy solution whenever they can. I’ve played this game since Vanilla, and outside of buying tokens for gold, to convert to balance, to buy store mounts/pets I wanted, I have NEVER bought a token.

You don’t need tokens, you choose to buy them because you’re bad at the game, or too lazy to do any actual work for what you want. That’s not a problem with the game, it’s a problem with you.

So… you buy tokens for $20, sell them for gold, then use that gold to purchase $15 worth of Blizzard balance, which you then use to buy mounts and pets.

Is there a compelling reason you choose to spend an extra $5?

No…?

I buy tokens WITH gold, gold I got IN GAME, and convert those tokens to Bnet balance. Are you joking?

You did originally say you bought tokens for gold. With gold makes more sense. There is a difference.

Asmon has been talking about stopping for years…he is all talk talk talk he going to stop.

Spoken like someone who thinks they’ve got it all figured out but really hasn’t a clue.

I don’t buy tokens.

Selling the in-game currency for real world money while minimizing loot drops and maximizing loot necessity for progression, and pulling out good sinks the the auction mount with months as a heads up, is creating and artificial problem and literally selling the solution. It’s a fundamental game design issue that literally none of the other 4 mmo’s I’ve played have.

In before “but muh drops was bad before Legion too” and “pffffft OnLy MaTtErS fOr CuTtInG EdGe.”

Not at all. Tokens FOR gold, means i’m giving GOLD for tokens.

As you yourself said it makes literally no sense to buy tokens with cash only to sell them for gold and reconvert them.

Yeah drops suck, but buying carries to overcome that isn’t Blizzard forcing you to do anything. They don’t WANT you overcoming that, you’re using real life money to bypass their design. (You in this case being someone who spends money for tokens and buys carries with gold)

It’s quite the opposite of what you’re suggesting, where they’d make carries drop way more loot or in come other way INCENTIVIZE you to buy them. Using JUST the stick doesn’t work, people would just quit.

True but no one is going to listen to that stuff unless they are going to sleep. The music is supposed to signal thought as it comes in when a character is contemplating a decision or insight. In the early game its every conversation. But its a lullaby. Thus the reason I label it a bad music choice. Maybe some do think a lullaby is when the mind is most active. They’re weird but sure.

But the larger point I was making is defenders of a game (why they exist I do not understand) excuse bad choices by placing it on the player to fix. What’s worst is there is so little variation of music in FFXIV that its stands out much more than it should. Again, I’m not saying liking FFXIV is bad or anything just these are some various reason I don’t. I could mention character models, combat actions, light shows abilities, one of the most boring questlines in history and so forth.

If someone doesn’t like something in WoW I do a really strange thing. I let them dislike it. Its not my place to defend a multibillion dollar company’s inability to engage with that person. I might argue over characters or story but the game is all on Blizzard. And even what I do argue over is really my interpretations not necessarily fact. Plus I kinda like the back and forth. The FFXIV community by contrast seem to have a problem with criticism of all types. I’m not a fan of toxic people but I’d rather have them than groupthink and cancel culture.

No one as in you? We have to be fair and not speak for everyone or hypothetical “other people”.

I personally have never been put to sleep by it’s music. That’s not to say someone else may not but it certainly did not affect me. The only time I was put to sleep playing that game was just because I was tired from a long day.

I get the point you were making. I addressed it by letting you know that “bad design” is a subjective term. If many people are happy with a design, maybe it’s not bad. Just because I don’t like pineapple on my pizza does not mean a pineapple pizza is a bad design. If I don’t want pineapple on my pizza, I can order it without or pick it off.

Literally no one that matters cares.

Channels that primarily focus on one thing always run the risk of losing a significant chunk of their audience when they no longer cover the thing that they initially built their channel on. Adding new topics to their channel is one thing, but to say “I am no longer covering this” takes some conviction.

Losing Preach is huge. Even for his negative commentary at times he was highly respected at Blizzard. Asmon might be gone today but he honestly impresses me as the kind of person who goes where the money is and if his bottom line is impacted by focusing on FF14 he’ll be right back to making WoW rage videos.
