Post Was Deleted

I made a post about doing a reroll event (WoTLK forums) and it mysteriously vanished, within like a minute, without a word. Is this not allowed, or something? Could someone please explain what was wrong with the post?

Title: Looking For A New Server? (Reroll Event)

The spam filter has been rather zealous for the past couple days I’ve noticed in new threads I’ve begun posting in.

If you posted it and then subsequently went in a few more times to edit, that is likely what got involved.

Ahh. That could be it. I edited the title to fix a word and typo twice. I just didn’t want to repost it, if there was something I posted in it that wasn’t allowed. And, was hoping it could be restored, if it didn’t break any rules.

I wasn’t sure if an SFA was in the office given today’s a major holiday in the US, but I do see that Vrak posted in another thread about ten minutes ago.

Some clarity and/or restoration could very well be in due course, just gotta wait to see if he pops in!

The spam thing seems most likely what it was, with the editing. I’ll just make a new post, and not edit so much lol. Since it’s likely no one is working right now.

That tends to happen more often with newer posters. It looks like Daddy only has a couple of posts on this character.

A Moderator should be able to review the post from the spam protection report. If they verify it isn’t spam they’ll mark it as good and it will appear again. Sorry for the confusion.

oh thank you, but I already reposted it. No need to take up their time. Thanks though. The spam thing made the most since, since it was so fast it appeared automatic.

The report is still out there, so someone will still be reviewing it.

If they notice you have an active thread they’ll likely approve it then manually delete it. I’ll see if I can look through those reports and grab it first.

Edit: Found it, you should be good.

+1 spam filter being buggy effectively shadowbanning people.

I’m gonna bet the automod bot removes this comment too unironically and vrak will have to approve this in the spam queue.

Give it a few minutes for that magical “akismet removed” notif.

What automod bot? The only thing automated is a post being hidden (not removed) if it receives enough flags. But people can still click to view the post. If the post gets removed, then a human removed it.

Nope, it’s spam spam filter completely hiding comments and posts, also often happens too fast to be manual. I know what you’re talking about, but it’s not that.

I’ve also seen GMs manually approve my comments/posts sometimes hours later.

I’m not sure if it’s because I’m using this toon now to post instead of the other one I’ve used on the forums (thetial), and that’s tripping the protection.

That happens if someone makes a bunch of quick edits to their post, but thats not the same thing really.

Happens on comments/posts without edits too.

and it just did it to this thread…

I wouldn’t exactly call it buggy, the system quarantines suspicious posts when they and the posting character fits the criteria. We’d rather temporarily remove a post than deal with the advert spam we’d see if we didn’t have it.

They are referring to the anti-spam system that is in place, not the normal reporting system. The anti-spam system we have in place is automated, but it only places the post in a quarantine until it can be reviewed by a moderator. It tends to get triggered if a newer poster posts a lot in a short amount of time, or continues to edit their posts.

And now I’m interested in how that false positive even happened, even after knowing the usual triggers, I’m sure that part is out of the scope of forum mods and rather to the coding in place.

You would likely need to contact Discourse. The forum software is theirs.

It’s not necessarily a false positive. As noted, new posting characters may have their posts put into temporary quarantine if they post too much in a relatively short period of time, or make a few edits to their posts.

The forums are character based, not account based, so by posting on a different character than usual, you are, in effect, a new poster.

If you quote the whole post directly above yours it will auto remove that quote part. Part of the forum software. I would guess that is what you ran into.

It’s been happening on almost every single comment on this toon. But not the other forum toon before I had quickly abandoned it (it was a default selected classic wow toon and people gave me a hard time for it).

It’s just this character, rather than account wide, that’s being shadowbanned by the spam filter. It’s super weird.

You would likely need to read some threads, like some comments, and add to existing topics. Join the conversation in the Lounge and talk about what you had for Thanksgiving (if you partake) or what series you have watched lately (no spoilers pls). That would help the system get to know you.
