Post-Mortem Analysis: Why Wrath Classic Didn’t Live up to the Nostalgia

You mean that bug that they already said isn’t a bug and they locked the thread you were necroing on it about?

Edit: That was someone else apparently, but someone kept bumping it despite clarification.

I have no idea what thread you’re on about.

But no, not LoS related. Kinda sorta.

Then what bug? Been killing H Sindy for weeks and never seen anything weird. Positive its a bug and not just old WoW doing old WoW things?

She has no tail swipe and you can stop the Blistering Cold pull from ever happening.

I’ll address the elephant in the room: The raids got too hard; specifically the pre-nerf Ulduar. I know I’m going to get a lot of “get good” replies, but really guys, most people suck real bad at the game. Making raids harder satisfies a small minority of players.

The 30 sec boss fights of Classic are maybe too far in the other direction, but at the end of the day this is an MMO to group with your friends. Having to filter out your friends that suck to clear content literally fractures the community.

Ulduar was a decent middle ground, now compare to the Lich King the fight on normal looks like LFR compared to the heroic version. Kinda happy that Ulduar hardest fight was basically just an achievement as Yogg 0 only rewarded an achievement and a mount. They probably should have done a nerf by ToC but their focus was on having dungeons replace raid content anyway.

At least ICC will have the 30% buff which will make pretty much everyone that wants to kill the LK on heroic be able to. But it still wasn’t too bad as I think around 30%+ of groups killed Algalon in 25m with Mimiron being the lowest hard mode with 49% of groups.

Well before Phase 4 it did accomplish it. But yea, obviously, a catchup dungeon from back then is good at catching up

You have to put that into perspective - what they mean is that raids get too hard for Classic. Everything in Wrath looks like LFR if you go into ICC, Cata and beyond, but thats not the discussion

And I disagree because of the clear rates which are very “high” for hard content. Maybe back then they would have been seen as way harder but it’s not the case anymore.

Heroic LK 25m is currently at < 10% clear rate, with a 10% buff and RS on the way. Do you think that is “high”?

No but there is 20% more buff coming. That’s very significative.

Yes but we are almost 3 months into the tier. Again - put that into perspective. The raids get too hard for Classic players. Every other raid tier before ICC was above 30% cleared at that time. And no tier had a % buff

I’m not arguing about the actual difficulty, Wrath is easy, you should just consider the playerbase.

The clear rates for fights like Putricide and Sindragosa is still decently high for 25m hc, LK is the only exception and tons of people will get it by the 30%.

Prof and Sindra are not relevant bosses, especially not Sindra which is a meme boss.

They are the 2nd and 3rd hardest boss for 25m hc. So they are still relevant.

Depends? When was the last time someone said “The tier is over for me when proff is dead!”. Its just a boss you have to kill to get to LK.

That’s not an argument. Having more than 50% of the groups clearing before the last boss of a raid on heroic is still a very decent average. Give it time the tier is not finished, this is not a naxx one week clear and it’s fine.

People want to kill the last boss (the relevant boss), get the best possible loot and farm it. That is the main deal in Classic. Nobody wants to play for the difficulty. Now you have one relevant boss: LK that is just unreachable for the vast majority, even with a 10% buff (3 months into the tier!). Thus the comment comes from the raids get too hard. For you, i mean you ofc are a pro and killed the boss day 1, it might be fine but it is a big reason why people left or leave.

I just recently talked to people that play since Classic 2019 and for them this is the end. They want to be bis before Wrath ends, but they don’t see LK dying any time soon (even though they are 11/12 HC) → they play SoD now and quit Wrath.

“vast majority” Like I said let’s wait a bit on that, with 30% buff I’m pretty sure it will go up to 30% minimum and for a last boss of an expansion like LK on heroic I think that will be pretty good. Sure I wouldn’t design bosses like that a lot but it’s the last boss of the expan, at least it’s not a Deathwing madness.

And you can play both SoD and Wrath because raid logging is a thing.

30% clear rate would still be vast majority not killing it btw. Yogg0 was around 65% at the end of togc, KT 25m around 95%, Sath3d 25m 80% (don’t know the exact numbers anymore ±10%)

Just looking at the numbers I provided you, don’t you see a trend here?

Apparently not? All the ones that I see playing sod quit Wrath permamently or at least aren’t part of a static raid anymore (aka pugging/gdkp).
