Post forum ownership transfer

So I got many characters who share the same name. Salkeen is one of them, he had another character named the same and apparently these new forums transfered all this Salkeen’s post to the other. In a attempt to rectify this myself I deleted the lower level Salkeen. But now this Salkeen is unable to post at all, and I’m not sure why.

Pretty sure that there’s no way for the forum to transfer posts from one character to another. What likely happened is that when the new forums came up, the character that was selected was a different Salkeen (on a different server) than the one you were used to posting on.

Seeing that you just posted, I’m not sure that I follow. Do you mean you can’t post in other forums?

Every other forums including the rp forums I had been posting on for ages now. I only say it did this now because it happened last night, it changed it all to a deleted copy character of mine.

The thread in question that used to be mine.

Again, I’m not sure that’s even possible with the new forums. If you think that there may be a bug, you’ll want to report it in the Website Bug Report forum.

Check the thread I just posted higher up is my characters posts. As we get lower it choose to transfer it to another Salkeen as well as leave a list of owner transfer edits on my notifications.

I’m going to agree with Perl that this is best reported on the Website Bug Report forum, though I’m not sure what they can do. It might help to be a little more clear what is going on to refer to your characters by both name and realm: Salkeen-Antonidas versus Salkeen-Emerald-Dream.

EDIT: Okay, from my two characters following it looks like it isn’t as simple as two of the same character, so when you report the bug you might want to link to old forum and new forum comparisons, in addition to the clarity about what characters.

Just posting this to test.

Second half of test. These are two characters on the same account, same name, but different realms. It sounds like that’s what you’re claiming is broken in some way.

I didn’t make any claims. You can switch between posting characters anytime you wish which is all that seems to be happening here.

To be clear, the forums track individual character’s post counts. It’s no longer account wide.

If you feel something else is not working right (which I didn’t see anything odd other than different posting characters in that thread), then the link I provided for the bug report forums is the best place to report it.

Sablehorns (both) are me, not the OP - and my comment was directed to the OP.

Haha…I’m an idiot  Totally thought it was the OP. Makes a lot more sense it was you!

I might suggest posting it on the general forums to test, it doesn’t seem to break anything among the support forums. But I still can’t post in any thread outside of these support forums now.

And to double check - you have game time right?

You can only post in a small handful of forum sections without game time.

There was a bug when the forum move happened that allowed people to post freely regardless of subscription status but I think that got fixed.

I do the other characters can still post, it’s just Salkeen suffering.

Roger that.

Well I see a thread reporting the bug has been filed in the WBR section so let’s hope the issue can be resolved quickly.

For the Salkeen that cannot post, would you be able to log out of the forums then login to the game with this specific character? Hang out in-game for a few minutes, change zones… Things that would force the game servers to update your character data.

Then try logging into the forums again and see if this character gets their posting abilities in the other forums.

Some background:
To post in the other forums, your character needs to be on an account with game time. Right now, some characters aren’t getting flagged as being on an active account which is limiting where they can post. The root cause is currently under investigation by the team working on the new forums but we’re also suggesting this workaround since it has helped some characters who were in this state.

Thank you I will try this when I get home from work.

Unfortunately after doing as you suggested and flying all around Kalimdor the problem persists. Perhaps there is another trick?

Same op different character apparently Salkeen can only post once before losing that ability.

There is also a limitation of the same character being able to post consecutively. This just means that, for example, this character I am posting on, cannot make another post immediately after this, it would need to wait until someone else or another of my characters posts first. If you are trying to make multiple posts in a row on the same character, then it will give an error.

Quick question —
If you’ve just made a post, and find yourself with more to say on the subject, why wouldn’t you just edit your existing post to add those thoughts? What purpose would a new post serve, other than to pad your post count?
