Policy Update for Input Broadcasting Software

I would sometimes amuse others by getting into stupid arguments, or singing, or making messed up poetry with my alts in chat. This wasn’t always deliberate, as half the time I didn’t even know which character I was on. I was not an organized player.

Blizzard found out they don’t need multiboxer money. They can just put a pet/mount/cosmetic outfit on the shop and make millions in a single day.

Jesus what mobs in the open world can’t you solo?

I could kill the world bosses solo before the patch

Are your toons naked?

So many times have multiboxers completely destroyed the World PvP experience. They would completely dominate us & we would just have to leave to find another shard entirely. They followed us to the new shard & ruined that as well.

No more.

This is a very good change for the video game, thank you. Good changes like this make me more excited than I already was for Shadowlands.

You have as much right to be concerned with them clicking, as I am concerned about you still being level 111.

Thank you for your comment, Mystirose. I am not a role player, but I had the same question. Apparently, some people use multiple accounts to make characters to act as an audience for RP events. How they get the money to pay for this? I have no idea.

Thank you Blizz. I approve!

Okay fine

You can kill the mobs in 1 gcd instead of 2, so you’re going to kill stuff twice as fast for 5 times the loot

So this is a really old argument. You should already know it. But since I read approximately 300 posts in this thread and I haven’t seen it I will do the argument for you.

Take these assertions to be true.

  1. Pressing w moves the character forward for whichever game tab is open.
  2. Pressing w while using “multiboxing software” will broadcast the w key input to multiple clients.
  3. Before today’s announcement using “multiboxing software” was legal.
  4. Something being legal equates to it not being cheating.
  5. After today’s announcement using “multiboxing software” is illegal
  6. Botting is the use of software wherein a program, once started, will complete a list of at least two actions.
(Some botting software loops the actions or has more actions. These cases illustrate more than two actions and thus are covered by “at least” and will not be proven. )
  7. Botting has been declared illegal by Blizzard.

Now take the case you have listed " I open up 2 WoW clients right now on 2 accounts and hold W…"

You can not be botting because you did the actions. Therefore you are either using multiboxing software and both clients will see the character move or you are not using multiboxing software and only one character moves. If your example was done prior to today’s announcement with Multi-boxing software it was not cheating, it was acceptable multiboxing. If your example is done after today’s announcement with Multi-boxing software it is cheating and is not acceptable multiboxing.

Hopefully you now clearly understand the difference between botting, acceptable multiboxing, and unacceptable multiboxing.

Says the hunter to the holy priest and the mage. You and I both have tanks that follow us around, mine just has more bag space.

That isn’t the only way to multibox. It will still happen. Be prepared.

Actually, they do. Running several bots under copies of the same bot program is taxing on some computers, so with the multi-boxing strategy. A single bot can perform the task on several other accounts without overloading the computer.

Does it stop botting? No, does it make it harder for mass bot farming? 100%

You don’t need to hire them. That’s what the group finder for WQs and world Bosses and all that other content is for.

Just one TOS change away from being so.

You’re a hunter. If you couldn’t solo world bosses you would need to reevaluate your life.

It will drastically take a big effect. Gold Farms and Boosters will most likely continue to use it, but this will make it so the action will be almost instant with no questions asked.

I’m pretty sure the “new” and innovative ways people found to abuse muti-boxing had become an issue, and I doubt it had anything to do with PvP. But hey, I’m saving money from the two accounts I closed, and if I miss one of those characters I think I can still get them transferred to the one account I’ll keep open.

Multiboxing isn’t dead, all this means is multiboxers will return back to the older multiboxing methods… before software like ISBoxer or other input mirroring or “broadcast” software existed…

Before ISBoxer existed, I use to just have my clients of wow just run on individual virtual machines that shared the same keyboard/mouse. So multiboxers will just return to this method, that or those with deep pockets will return to running a server or multiple pcs.

And the best thing too is this method is far easier today with less performance impact as compared to the past and less hardware investment (no server required), thanks to the rise of high core/thread count CPUs, especially AMD Ryzen CPUs. As compared to when I use to multibox back pre-2011 where I only had anywhere from 1 to 4 cores on a 2.2ghz or lower intel cpu. These days players have have consumer CPUS with up to 16 cores 32 threads and 3.5 to 5.2ghz at their disposal (personally I run an Ryzen 9 3900x)…

So unfortunately this Blue Post specifically states that Only “3rd party broadcast software” is going to be actionable… not hardware level multiboxing or whatever.

Here’s Ridosaw who still hardware multiboxes as if it’s still 2007:
