Please take out the trash

… if WoW isn’t the place for that garbage, why is it called trash?

History lesson.

Way back in the early days of MMOs, every mob in a dungeon had loot, not just bosses. However, the loot from the non-boss mobs was always vendor junk and never worth using. In those days your inventory would fill up insanely fast with junk items, leaving you to trash a bunch of your drops in order to take something you actually needed or even to take a different junk item that was more valuable. Over time people started to call these normal mobs trash, because that was all they dropped. When the first raids came out in an MMO, these same “trash” mobs made their way into them, a little bit stronger than before but with a large raid group they would fall quickly. The term trash mob expanded to mean more than just what they dropped but to also represent how easy they were to kill. As more time passed, players pushed for harder and harder content. Trash mobs began to pose a real threat to a raid team, and some began to call fighting them a slog… and that brings us to today.

You do realize the irony in saying that a lack of trash is garbage, correct?

And you do realize that I was calling that specific type of raid garbage right?

Besides, the colloquial name of “trash” for normal mobs is just that… a name. Their presence is part of what makes traditional style raids enjoyable. There is no enjoyment in just boss fights. If you hate the “slog” then push for normal mobs to be easier again, or maybe just “git gud”

No it didn’t go over my head, it was just no good.

You undersell yourself! Calling a lack of trash “garbage” design is comedic gold.

Well, let’s see… 2-3 hours?
The question makes no sense though, it’s for progressing bosses, not 1shotting bosses.

Great but i wasn’t asking you.

Wow has long raids you know? You can take out the trash and it still takes time to get to the bosses…

I don’t want boss fight only raids in general, just for season 4.
We’ve already killed all the bosses and trash this expac, it makes no sense to put trash up again as a time killer.

Idk who you’re saying to git gud, but you know you’re talking about trash no?
It takes no skill to kill trash, the bosses are the test.

The trash is like before seeing the question you have to scratch off the paper sheet. lmao

You consider it skillful to scratch off a sheet of paper? Or answering the question on it?
One of them is a waste of time.

No.

I can guarantee you that nobody - NOBODY - ever walked into any raid, including the argent tournament one, and said, “Hey, you know what would make this raid way better? If it had a ton more trash in it.”

Nobody.

No but he’s just using common sense.

You know what would be better on my way to work? Some traffic jams!

They complained because:

  1. One (okay 2 rooms) for a whole raid.
  2. Only 5 bosses…

People said “Hey this raid needs a ton more trash”?

No they didn’t.

People might have complained about the fights being dumb, or Anubarak mysteriously coming back, or the bad role-play between the main characters, or ESPECIALLY the absurdly convoluted loot system that barely anybody understood.

But nobody said “Hey I wish there was a ton of trash to fight”.

We have a game model that’s 80% trash now: Mythic+ dungeons.

Leave the trash in M+ where people enjoy fighting it.

Considering all players are different and have different mindsets in things they want, I don’t think the common sense argument applies to this scenario.

I only mentioned Argent tournament raid as the only raid I remember being almost entirely devoid of trash mobs and more boss focused and assumed blizz never did it again because some people didn’t like that type of raid environment.

Absolutely, they did. The complaints went into greater detail, relating to a lack of internal progression or build up within the raid or whatever, but it all boiled down to a lack of trash mobs. And that’s without the whole “tradition” argument.

It exactly applies in this scenario.
Because common sense is assigned by the highest number of people, namely the majority.
It’s how the majority thinks.

Do you sincerely believe the majority of the players want more trash to fight?
I doubt it.

No it didn’t… lol

The problem with going by the majority/minority stance is its not entirely accurate. What could be considered majority are really a small minority of loud and vocal individuals. While what is considered minority could be a majority of silent individuals who don’t feel like saying anything will amount to much since blizz rarely if ever listens.

As for the trash mobs thing. Like I said I assumed Argent wasn’t done again because of a some not liking it while others liked the short simple encounter set-up.

I’m sorry, but i haven’t lived in a cave, i’ve lived with lots of people on this Earth, there are a lot of them on the internet.
You can know with a certainty what most people like, that’s why you’re supposed to use common sense.
