The original dungeon finder didn’t have a deserter debuff at all. And it resulted in DPS sitting in unpopular dungeons constantly waiting for a tank and or healer who would be willing to do the unpopular dungeon.
And that was frustrating as all hell because nothing is more enjoyable than waiting 15-20 minutes for a dungeon to pop, only to get the unpopular one and then have to sit there waiting for a tank and/or healer to actually want to do said dungeon. Back in the day that was Oculus.
I don’t want Blizzard to repeat their past mistakes. Sorry.
Do something else for the debuff duration. It’s not the end of the world.
Yes. At least this way you are CHOOSING the consequence.
In the previous way, you get the consequence without a choice.
Heck, I got kicked off the weekly HC because my 621ilvl butt pulled the entire dungeon, group survived fine, but the healer and his friends didn’t like it one bit.
SO. CAN. YOU. You can teleport out of the dungeon and do something while waiting on another tank. Invalid argument.
Yikes that is just a shame, their programmers should be embarrassed.
As to your initial post I think there is some sort of middle ground, plenty of people have come up with suggestions I just think everything can and will be abused on some way by the community.
It’s a bummer if you want to play one character and are locked for half an hour, jd I know it’s not the answer you’re looking for but I either swap to an alt, swap to a game of modded Balatro, or get up and walk/shower/etc
End of the day, Blizzard isn’t going to repeat their past mistakes.
Hell, they just added another condition recently to make the deserter debuff trigger because players were abusing the system. Now you can’t leave a dungeon at any point without triggering the debuff, where as before you could leave if you killed one boss.
Ya’ll are going to have to live with this, because it ain’t going anywhere.
I can see your point, I even suggested doing something else but the truth is that just because that option exists doesn’t mean we can’t try to find a better way.
I have lots of alts so if I get a debuff I either hop to them or just do solo content for a bit. But some people want to do dungeons on one character, and they may only have an hour a night to play. We should try to be considerate of them too.
The system had no debuff, then it had a debuff, then they made it so you wouldn’t get a debuff after the first boss. Maybe you didn’t play during that.
There was also a period in dungeons where a full wipe would allow you to leave without penalty. So unhappy people would grab multiple trash packs and the boss, the group would wipe and then they could wu it without any penalty.
Blizzard has definitely changed it multiple times over the years not always for the better
This is true, but I will never stand for something that does not go with your individual freedom. The game is yours. You pay for it. You can leave if you want to.
The whole “then we have to wait again” thing is useless, since if you only have 1h to play and you end up getting kicked by 3 chad-wannabes, you’ll have to wait anyway.
Worse, you’ll have to wait for the debuff to drop and THEN wait for a spot as a DPS.
The whole thing is terrible.
Just make groups that are already in the dungeon get priority to a tank/healer if they leave/get kicked.
Yeah I’m a bit torn on this one, as I said there is a middle ground but I’m not sure what that is.
While you are paying, it’s an MMO so are the other people, so we can’t let people do anything and everything they want.
A similar thing happens in the other online game I play, dead by daylight, if one of the 4 survivors feels salty for any reason they quit because “you can’t make me play.” But that gives the killer side a basically insurmountable advantage so that one person quitting screwed over three others. Is that fair or right?
Every change they’ve made to it has been a response to people finding a new way to abuse the system so they can avoid getting the debuff. In an ideal world, people wouldn’t abuse the system and so the deserter debuff could have remained as it was when initially implemented. 15m if you left the dungeon early.
But people just have to try to make the experience worse for everyone, so here we are several iterations later with Blizzard now changing it so you can’t kill the boss you want and then bail because it didn’t give you the loot you wanted.
For sure. And the times I think blizzard made it worse was not their fault, they made a change that I’m sure sounded good on their end because they didn’t foresee a loophole that the community of course caught
You mean like me getting to sit 30 mins waiting to complete a sumb weekly because I pulled what I knew I could pull and the whole group survived? That kind of worse?
I mean, if you pulled what you knew you could pull, but the healer wasn’t comfortable with that, nor were the DPS. They had every right to kick you.
Just because you don’t think that’s fair, doesn’t mean they were abusing the system. You should have asked if the group was comfortable with big pulls first instead of instantly assuming they’d be okay with it because you want to be Billy Bigshot.
I am beginning to believe you are not discussing this in good faith.
They should not be penalized for 30 minutes for tanking without causing a wipe, and not griefing either, and for trying to be efficient, all because someone else wasn’t comfortable with their playstyle.
