Please reconsider your stance on retail/classic reward linking

sure. hold onto your slim slice of hope.

Blizzard has said they’re fine if only 10 people end up playing on the Classic Servers.

It is a safe bet that Classic will be as faithful of a reproduction as it is “reasonably possible” to provide, and from there the only attention CLASSIC will get from there is bug fixes as they appear and code updates as certain things require updates to stay current.

Now as to what else they may do with the available code after Classic is live and verified as “working as intended.” That is an entirely different matter, but whatever might happen there, it won’t be under the “Classic” label.

I can certainly understand why retail stuff should not be usable in classic.

I don’t see any harm in allowing classic mogs/mounts to be usable in retail though.

I mean most mounts are still available, so what are we talking about here?
Anathema and a couple of key weapon mogs, the tier 3 naxx original set (which is arguably still obtainable via BMAH), and isn’t that sort of it?

I’m curious what are the rewards folks are so hung up on when going from classic-> retail but not the other way around.

Blizzard wants people to play Classic only if they want to play Classic.

Bribing them with anything at all in Modern goes counter to that. It doesn’t matter what specifically would motivate them. It’s tautological: if it would cause people to play Classic who don’t want to play Classic for Classic
then it would cause people to play Classic who don’t want to play Classic for Classic.

the problem is that it would cause huge turnover in classic wow.
you’d have people coming in purely to get x mount or y transmog and then bailing on the guild.

because while you can get tier 3 on the BMAH its still expensive as heck.
now imagine linked rewards classic -> retail. your guild just got done killing KT and your main tank just got the last item he needed.
and he bails on you guys and goes back to retail.
now you just traded a fully geared, knowledgeable tank, for someone who you need to gear up an teach the fights.

The “collector” mindset in modern wow is so OCD that there will be players in Classic that despise the game but who feel compelled to be there just to complete some armor set or other. At least one such type of person was posting earlier on in this thread. No thanks to this kind of attitude. If people don’t want to play the game for its own sake, why play it at all?

I want you to put your money where your mouth is, then. There’s a former two-handed sword from the old Darkshore tower quest chain. It’s called Seraph’s Strike. Let’s see if you’re true to your word and actually try to get it back into the game.

Another one, which is even better: The missing gloves of the Imperial Plate set. It exists in the files. You can see it on the Blade of Argus NPCs in Bloodmyst. Let’s see if we can get something Classic never had.

Why are you asking a CM to make promises on specific items?

More than that, what do you (Galareaux) think Ythisens said? They said “no” and you seem to have reparsed it into “yes if I can possibly manage it.”

Ythisens said it’s fair to ask for the chance to earn those items again, not that it would be happening.

But if you want to ask for it, you should probably do so in General Discussion where they talk about BfA. The answer for earning them in Classic and getting them unlocked in BfA is no(which I maintain that this would be a terrible way of doing it anyway).

This makes me very happy. :grinning:

“which would be devaluing to those that earned those rewards that are no longer obtainable”

but you can buy lookalike sets for old Naxx and the mounts from old ZG on the black market auction house. That doesn’t “devalue” them? They are, in a way, easier to obtain than pre-Cata.

“Adding any sort of reward carry over in either direction isn’t authentic and defeats the point.”
How would reward carryover to retail make the experience for someone playing classic be inauthentic? No, none of that was there in original classic, but then original classic WAS retail so there was no need.

there are very small special cases that also cost 1 million + gold so they remain rare and are a needed gold sink.

the rest of the items though cant be bought or what have you by anyone but the very rich. and a good number of those arent even showing up on the bmah anyways.

people shouldnt have rewards from classic to retail. they are two different games at this point and there is no transmog window or anything like that in classic to begin with.

except there is because they are reverse engineering a LEGION patch basically, that is why LFD existed in the demo but is not planned tot be usable. they cna easily have transmogrify if they want.

Whether or not they “can have” transmog in Classic, unless I am mistaken, Blizzard has stated that Classic WILL NOT have transmog, achievements, etc.

I believe that they also stated that items obtained in Classic will not carry over to retail or be unlocked on retail and items obtained in retail will not carry over to Classic.

They have stated that transmog will not be in Classic. It is a good thing though. You know who has put in the work on that character. I loved seeing people with a certain set during Vanilla. I knew they were good and wanted to get that gear myself. It is a trophy wearing it.

He never said he would ask. He said it would be fair to allow you to ask. So go to general and ask for those things. Because you know, that pertains to retail and not classic.

But they shouldn’t.

We, and they, don’t want transmog in Classic. Because it wasn’t a part of Vanilla.
