Theyâre not erasing straight people. Just making things a little less awkward for roleplaying.
I uh donât even know any of the jokes lol It doesnât matter to me whether they go or not, I play with the volume off so all I see is âx tells you a joke.â And I go⊠ok /pat.
The censorship in general is bizarre to me, though. I would think they have other more pressing things to focus on that some joke lines and fruit bowls.
I looked into some of the flirts that were getting removed and honestly a lot of them were extremely creepy. I guess given the context of the people/environment that likely put them in it makes sense but wow. Some of them are maximum levels of cringe I canât actually imagine thatâs what someone would come up with for a âflirtâ emote.
However I dislike how randomized this all feels. Why is Ymirons quote getting removed? Why did sylv/garrosh dialogue get changed? I donât see how thatâs related to changing the names and removing references to sexual offenders/sexual offenders jokes.
And who are you to dictate what is?
seems like they are with the removal of some of the /flirt. also how is it "less awkward for roleplaying? if you want your toon gay, bi or an attack helicopter then do it. if you wanna ship yourself is X do it
also, it seems like every new character that gets in now blizz gose and says âyer, there gay/bi/trans/ etcâ. hell, there even doing it for older character. feels like what jk rowling did (maybe even doing still) with the whole âx married y, had z number or kids. a is also gay, b is bi, c might be bi and d is straight but dose think what it would be like to be gayâ years after the books (and even movies) ended
its unneeded. let the characters just be characters and lets not get into what they like in the bedroom. leave that to the rule 34 artists, lol
some of those are cringy - I am glad I donât read the story in this game.
Well, the insistence in this topic makes no wonder most people cant understand what this guy means in this scene:
And Iâm saying its awkward if say you were a gay character and someone does the âDont you wish your girlfriend was hot like me?â joke / flirt
Also JK Rowling is nothing but a terf. Disregard whatever nonsense she does
Thatâs why I think theyâre not touching this planet. The friendly ones know weâre a train wreck and the hostile ones are willing to let us destroy our own civilisation for them.
âRelax, itâs only PTRâŠâ
There is absolutely no reason for any of us to assume this, especially since we have devs on Twitter claiming the exact opposite.
Looks like the list got a whole lot worse.
Then dont do /flirt and just type a flirt out.
I like my nelf male saying that. Just caz your gay dosnt meen everyone is gay the need to take it out
Much like they are making systemlands for themselves and we see how well thatâs been going.
Yes it is definitely relating to a room that likely didnât exist since the joke was in since vanilla beta ffs. Nursing rooms are unfortunately relatively new in US companies so itâs highly unlikely a joke that is nearing 20 years old at this point is about that.
Yeah, I have to say Iâm not entirely sold on this argument here. For one, the flirts/sillies seem to largely be intended to be non-canon anyway. There are tons of them that just blatantly break the fourth wall or express an awareness of real-world culture in order for the joke to work (like the female Lightforged Draeneiâs âMacâAreenaâ joke.)
I always sort of triggered these jokes for my own amusement when bored, like if Iâm standing around waiting for a group/raid to get ready. I canât imagine intentionally triggering them in an RP setting and wanting the other rper to actually take the audio line as if it were something my character was actually saying.
That being said, I definitely do see the harm in having a line that like play for a character that is meant to be gay. I suppose the question is whether the line itself is so egregious that it should be purged from all possible scenarios, and in all fairness, and thatâs not really something I feel comfortable supporting.
Being sex-positive means supporting the idea that all genders can be âsexyâ without having to be reduced to objects of consumption by others without their consent. And a line that basically just shouts âhey, men are hot too!â seems to fall into that category of sex-positivity.
Thatâs the one that makes the least amount of sense to me. I mean, someone swearing so much that what theyâre saying is incomprehensible due to the bleeps is a very old and relatively inoffensive joke, provided youâre not offended by crude words merely existing. I mean, itâs already censored. The joke is simply the sheer volume of the swearing. I remember the exact same joke being made in the YuGiOh abridged series and everyone found it hilarious. Itâs not targeting anyone or making any group the butt of the joke.
Iâm really just wondering who was offended by this. I know that the devs themselves are deciding what gets changed for their own sakes and Iâm willing to believe their motivations on that⊠but this seems really scattershot.
I guess it makes sense since when you make an internal channel specifically dedicated to finding problematic content in-game to remove you end up with hammers searching for nails. Ultimately I donât have that much stake in it either way since despite the volume of changes, none of them are really that big of a deal. But it does all look like performative Puritan nonsense to me though.
They said in the last blue post that crude humor would always have a place in WoW and Iâm finding that less and less believable. At this point Iâd like to hear an example of a sex joke that would be allowed to stay. I certainly donât expect to see anything even remotely risquĂ© going forward, even in passing.
I get that these changes are for the employees to feel better but Iâm going to be honest, they need thicker skin since some of the things theyâre removing are really tame. It makes them look pretty silly.
Blizzard loves ripping the old game apart anywayâŠso Im VERY sure weâre going to see a LOT of removing going on. Anyone who thinks this all is just going to include some âmeanâ emoji crap is deluding themselves. By the time theyre done, the game wont have anything left that makes it uniqueâŠso Iâll go play ESO instead.
This might be the final nail⊠because there is nothing wrong with any of these⊠and they are funnyâŠ
blizzard doesnât want anyone to feel uncomfortable in their game about war and genocide.
Iâm not okay with the removal of these flirt and joke emotes, I have laughed too many times at them. Removing them is not addressing the concerns of sexual harassment within the company. I do hope blizzard listens to the player base and retains these emotes.
