I think a Feat of Strength, or maybe a title would be sufficient. I think adding in another form/tint that will be unavailable to people who didn’t do it in Legion just continues the original problem.
(And I’m saying this as someone who has all of the Legion druid mage towers completed.)
Let people have cool stuff. I’m happy I’ve had it to play with since Legion, and it doesn’t harm me in anyway if people can get them now.
I disagree with this point that people like to make, and it feels like a weird copypasta that comes up in these threads. Especially since this is/was primarily a solo challenge and you’re trying to pitch community cooperation.
I don’t think one-time-limited rewards are good for a game that exists and grows over the course of 20+ years. I think these things should be in some sort of rotation, if nothing else. “You should’ve been there” just doesn’t feel like a great vibe for this sort of game.
I do agree that time-sensitivity is important for patch cadence, but I much prefer how it’s done with holidays. They’re around for a little while, then they’re gone. If you missed your opportunity or you’re brand new to the game, they’ll be back every year.
As someone who has a lot of things you can’t get anymore, I don’t see the value in having things nobody else can ever get. “Sorry, you can’t get this form I have anymore” isn’t as fun to engage with as “here’s how you can get this form I have, new player!”
I don’t get the hype for MT appearances at least for Druid. Tron bear forms > all druid forms. Red Tron Bear is #1. Roid rage bear skipped leg day and looks ridiculous. Why waste time on a horrible form ?
Even solo challenges involve the community. There’s guides written about it, people talking about it, excitement being driven by shared experiences. You can’t compare how the Mage Tower was in Legion to how it is now that it’s up all the time. The limitations are what made it a different experience for the community.
I disagree. If I know I can just get something some other time, most of the time I don’t even think to bother. I’ve played this game too long and know that most things I can just go back and cheese with little effort.
They are valuable, just not for the reason you believe. The value isn’t in their unobtainable status, it’s in the appearance and the experience of obtaining it.
I felt great when I completed my first mage tower as a Brewmaster Monk. Nighthold was still pretty new, and it gave me a lot of feeling of prestige at the time, wielding this neat unique weapon. I accomplished something and I had something to show for it.
I got to share stories of “how I did it” and I got to see others eventually get their appearances as well.
Now that it can’t be obtained, it’s only discussed when I have to tell someone they can’t get it anymore. Which, TBF, is only the werebear forms. There’s really no joy there. I’m not proud that I have this thing someone else can never get, it’s a cool appearance. I’d love to be able to point them in the direction of getting it.
But if they gave it to everyone for free tomorrow, it wouldn’t lose value to me. Because, as I said, that value is in the experience and memories I have of how I got it. And if there was a competitive level to it, where I wanted to show off, there’s far less value when someone else can’t get something, than there is having something that’s just difficult to get.
I have the havoc DH MT glaives and the feral druid forms. I’m sad to this day that I didn’t tank on either class during Legion, therefore I did not attempt the tank challenges. If they were added back now, I’d be all over it if I could get those vdh glaives. I prefer them now over the fiery havoc ones.
It also makes me sad that prot pally and prot warr both had flails as their rewards. As a mostly tank main, I regret not being able to get those either.
I don’t think Blizzard is ever going to budge on this topic though. I think the only compromise would have been adding 1 recolor of every weapon skin and druid form like bears got, but nope, that ship has sailed. If they were going to do it, they would have did it when they reintroduced the mage tower.
