Thats slippery slope. Asking for things never in vanilla or that people wouldnt want.
If there was an osrs style community vote for 1.12 av it would never pass 75%. Revert to old av vote would be very close. im sure like in osrs we would have people who never do that content vote against it out of spite though.

I never got to see what the epic battles of AV looked like but I hear people talking about them all the time as something really special. If we are really going to be going back to classic Warcraft to experience the game as it was then, then it follows the same spirit to implement earlier version of AV. We have all seen what AV turned into at the end of vanilla. Maybe they could implement the changes over time the same way they are releasing the raid tiers in phases.
I would love to be able to see it in its former glory. In the end, isn’t that why we are all here?
1.12 AV is a deal-breaker for me. My whole entire old Guild was wanting to come back to Classic simply for av as well as myself. If 1.12 is what we are getting then I just won’t come back to Classic and that is fine. I’m sure it will not bother anyone else. The rest of the old Guild probably won’t come back either though. While that may seem like not a big deal to some I’m sure we are not the only ones that feel this way and will avoid classic. It’s an avalanche effect. Saying no changes to certain aspects of classic that were literally there is moronic. To make classic truly successful it needs to be a hodgepodge of what made the game great to begin with. Patches were done over the years of vanilla and some things worked and some didn’t. It wouldn’t be a stretch to add the things that did work and leave the ones that did not out.

CRBGs and Early AV have been a topic of discussion since vanilla. Seriously, where have you been?
Brack requested we let blizzard know what versions of vanilla elements we desired, and we were quite vocal via polls and forums. Virtually NOBODY was asking for a static across the board patch, much less 1.12.

This thread Blizzard is recreating Classic, and leaving out one of it’s core and most memorable features. It’s like if they re-did the Indiana Jones series, but removed nzi bad guys. It’s still Indiana Jones, but it’s missing one of the main things that made the series so memorable.

you know… tons of people claim they want the old AV back and don’t like the zerg rush of modern AV.
but if the beta showed us one thing, it’s that when the time comes and people have to choose between a van/drek rush or large scale PvP… they’ll just the van/drek rush.
NOTHING prevents people on beta from forming a 10-man squad and backcapping objective ; since you’re not killing the general with 4 marshall up at lvl 58 in dubious gear, this would effectively stop the PvE rush… but nobody do it.
so while people claim they want old AV… evidence point toward people not wanting old AV.
The beta shows us nothing relevant to how live will be with the honor grind and MoHs in place. There is zero incentive to rush the beta AV.
And yet many games in 1.12 were not rushes, so why should we think they would be in classic?
Blizzard intended to make Marks of Honor more relevant, and did so in 2.0. 1.5 AV’s insanely long games would have thrown their plans out the window. While only Blizzard can say how much Marks of Honor factored into the decision to nerf AV, if Blizzard hadn’t done so, players would have thrown an absolute fit at the amount of time necessary to complete AV to get their marks and their pvp gear.
And yet the last major removal of NPC’s took place in 1.11 not 2.0… it’s almost like the two aren’t really related.
in the patch we are getting? You think they’re pushing out straight 1.12? You have not been paying attention.
Do you honestly believe that Blizzard didn’t know that they were going to overhaul the pvp loot system well in advance of TBC? Blizzard doesn’t make major changes to their games on a last minute whim.
Ugh, are we getting the BG specific marks of honor system? That kills PvP so hard because it forces people into playing BG’s they don’t want to play, and puts everyone into a “I must win this or my time is wasted” mindset.

I think in general they were fixing bad initial design mistakes that extend far beyond just Bg and the honor system, original AV was included in that. Keep in mind they started changing AV as early as 1.8, they just weren’t happy with it till 1.11.
