Not an option when the head honcho himself flat out admitted they design encounters around addons like Deadly Boss Mods. That’s 100% telling the playerbase it’s necessary to use if you want to play “the right way”.
They’ve done this for 15 years. Just because he SAID IT doesn’t mean it’s new. It’s hardly new. and DBm is free. The great attack on addons 2022 shall fail.
The game shouldn’t be designed around 3rd party applications. There’s a reason why literally every other MMO only allows very surface level addons and ban anyone using something even remotely like DBM or Weak Auras. It ruins the experience.
People are misrepresenting what asmongold is saying. he never said remove all addons.
Can you complete all content without addons? Can you do it without being at a massive disadvantage? If the answer is no then it isn’t good.
Ion said they designed content with popular addons in mind because if they didn’t then that content would be trivial. It isn’t good when you have to download addons to complete content.
I disagree. They should build the game around the players that play it. The players use addons. Build the game in that way.
If you people think it’s bad in keys now with pugs, just wait until there’s no GTFO, no timers, no interrupt warnings. You think you don’t play with clickers? You think everyone has everything bound to keys? They don’t. You’ll feel the pain if DBM is gone.
Let me clarify…Hardcore people who are screaming to remove addons on the forums. Hardcore players want HARD CONTENT. Not the same thing as 1%ers who do world first.
Please stop talking, you still have no idea what you are talking about after your responses.
Pointing out how much the game relies on 3rd party apps isn’t helping the argument at all. If a game feature such as M+ would fail without their use, that’s very much an indictment against both said feature and the use of addons. You aren’t playing the game at that point, the addon is playing the game for you.
Yea, definitely not.
Go do a +18 ToP on a Frost Mage this week and see if you don’t need addons for it. lol. Good luck.
If Blizzard do not like the addon they just break it like they have in the past.
That was entirely my point.
Don’t worry, blizzard isn’t removing addons. It’s this weeks clickbait
they aren’t. and they shouldn’t. Ion did discuss about limiting the information addons can access. Also about the possibility of integrating features from some addons into the ui. He doesn’t want people to need to download addons to play and admits that is a problem right now.
This issue is important for the future of wow. If you need addons to play endgame you will lose potential players.
The type of AddOns people arguing over shouldn’t affect most of the casual player base. They just need to make mechanics easier to read instead of requiring DBM/BW or WAs to properly manage. Better telegraphs are long overdue as well.
Most stuff that combat AddOns are able to do should just be baked into the baseline UI, so it’s like removing them. Anything not combat related, if not being incorporated into the baseline UI at least as optional, should stay as it is.
As much as I dislike addons it’s not like blizz is ever going to do away with them sadly.
That said if they do take stuff from add-ons and integrate it into the base game, I don’t want that option that has my toon talking like dbm has. Took me awhile but I finally found a way to turn that portion of it off, it got annoying.

If you are someone who doesn’t want addons, DO NOT USE THEM. Simple. Remove them from your game and play how you want
So much this. No one is forcing you to use addons, so don’t if you think it will make your game better.
And as much as you want to believe the fights are designed around addons, you do realize the fight is made first, the the add is made.
But again, NO-ONE IS FORCING YOU TO USE THEM.

And as much as you want to believe the fights are designed around addons, you do realize the fight is made first, the the add is made.
Ion himself admitted they design fights knowing full well AddOns will make them easier, so they make them harder on purpose, which in turn makes us depend on them to do mechanics properly.
I agree. It’s our UI, our right.

Asmongold said addons need to go

the game has flying mounts that Blizzard created.
Flying mounts ruined WoW

Not ONE person forces another to play with addons.
Considering fights are designed with addons in mind, I find this statement false. Blizzard has done a terrible job from the beginning when it comes to giving characters warnings for certain abilities from raid bosses. You can play the game without addons pretty well even at the Mythic level. There are some exceptions however where mechanics could not be properly handled without addons giving the appropriate warning. Addons should be removed BUT before they do that they need to greatly enhance the UI (Dragonflight could be a good start) to display certain things the boss fights themselves should but do not telegraph.
