First impressions of SV hunter were negative. Just letting you know.
That was because the spec was just garbage, not because of its new identity. In fact the identity of being melee was highly praised, which is why people were so upset at how bad it was
Thing is… if I wanted to play a melee class, I would pick warrior or rogue.
Hunters are KNOWN to have firearms.
People are generally dismissive of weak/awful points.
So play BM or MM in that case.
Survival was reworked because it lacked a solid identity as it was this weird thing between BM and MM. So during Legion they reworked the overall theme of it to be survivalist themed as opposed to the previous identity of “I dunno, something about ranged poisons, some amount of tracking, and I guess you can be somewhat close to melee at times … but you are still ranged.”
What they are doing with MM is literally the same thing: solidifying its identity.
MM has been petless since at least Warlords of Draenor meaning that it has been about a decade since the specialization was designed for Marksmanship hunters to summon their pet, whereas it has been its identity to take aim, dismiss their pet, and be this incredible sniper as opposed to pet caretaker.
If one want a specialization all about the pet, pick BM.
If one want a specialization that has some pet interactions/abilities, pick survival.
If one want a specialization that has no pets at all, pick Marksmanship.
This is how it has been for around 10 years now.
at this point it’s either terrible designers or terrible management of the designers coddling or letting them run amok. mm is not a lone assassin it’s the classic hunter+dog and sniper+scout, while beastmaster is not really the main damage as much as a trainer. mm pet isn’t the fighter but it’s still the team that matters. this shouldn’t even have to be explained or be any kind of discussion with competent people. mm and bm is not and should not be a simple “just change who cares.”
if you want a lone wolf spec or go fix something like rnglaw to be human playable. rogue makes sense to not have a pet but for a hunter it’s wrong to think it can be papered over with animations again like frost mages were done.
Neither of which are dedicated melee classes.
What part of “embraced it” wasn’t clear?
Imagine typing this up and thinking it’s actually correct.
MM has been a non pet class by design and lore since Legion. Try and keep up.
Exactly. I know I didn’t “adapt and embrace it.” It’s my least favorite spec. in the game now. I wouldn’t play it if someone paid me to.
The one where you didn’t post specific details why you claim it to be embraced. Surv Hunter was a mess when it was reworked. First impressions play a part in any modern game design.
Want a free example? See Fallout 76
The part where everyone didn’t immediately agree with them.
It has been explained over and over to them, but they just don’t like it is all there is to it.
Do you even play the game as MM?
Cool. Most of the players and the developers disagree with you. Funny how that works
Yikes.
Out of curiousity, what do you think my point is?
why not just play beast mastery to tame pets from now on?
That you should be able to keep a pet as Marksmanship even though they have been a solo class since Legion and most anyone that plays them properly knows that and plays lone wolf so again you have that option (the pet option) with Survival and Beastmastery.
That you have some weird obsession/bond with a pet and you’re not happy MM is losing its pets.
Except that’s not my point,
My concern has nothing to do with the mechanics of MM hunters having or not having a pet out. It has with idea of devs defining what pet the hunter invokes (an eagle) when imagining the class fantasy when a core feature of hunters has always been our ability to define our own bonds.
Realistically you shouldn’t even have the eagle, you should have to go it alone thus the original point of lone wolf, be grateful they are letting you have anything because they could be giving you nothing.
