Got a source on that by chance?
(It never should have been removed to begin with either way, which was my point.)

Mostly likely not.
So MM focusing on not having a pet since legion wasn’t a thing?
So out of touch.
The blue post linking the 11.1 patch notes is a good start.
It’s in the UI section of the patch notes. You’ll be able to change pet specs in the stable (but not on the fly).
MM hunters HAVE NOT used their pets outside of being forced to in PvP or calling them for lust, then releasing them for over a decade now.
99% of MM hunters don’t want a pet and it’s been that way for a while now, this isn’t classic wow.
An excellent alternative; people have been asking for Rangers a long time, it would have been a good opportunity to do that. Then they could simply have improved MM and Lone Wolf and left them as the iconic pet-using class they have always been.
Just as a fyi… since I see everyone bringing up pvp vaguely but not knowig the specifics of why lone wolf isn’t taken.
Its because sacrificial roar and the ability to escape cc is so big. Its why pets are there for their defensive utility.
The ability of Lone Wolf, started off as an ability you could spec into for those niche players who didn’t want a pet, but still wanted to be a hunter…
It gave the player the choice of not having a pet, but it in no way was a mandatory item. However, Over time, it’s now become the thing it shouldn’t be. What was once an option to the player, has now become the mainstay if you even choose to touch Marksmanship. Though, even if I went Marksmanship on my Hunter today. You be dang skippy, that pet would be out.
Gotcha. Thanks! Yeah, I found the dev notes for 11.1 but was struggling to find that feature specifically. Didn’t realize it was hiding in the UI section. So yeah, it does appear to be a thing. Hopefully they don’t remove it. Again.
I brought up Roar of Sac, Intimidate, Master’s call, MS effect, etc already. No MM hunter in PvP wants to use a pet, they’d rather just have control over their spec and not have to rely on their pet being off in Africa sitting cc’d. But MM hunter has been forced to use the pet for all those reasons for a while now.
That wasn’t the request. The request for hunters has been re-adding the ability to choose pet spec and not having to use a hunter pet for certain abilities.
Something Blizzard had been working on. Like with Intimidation no longer requiring an active pet and instead just summoning a pet from your stable. Doing the Ability. Then leaving again.
There is no good reason for them to make this change when they already had the answer and could have just implemented it the way people actually wanted without removing a function of the class.
Expansion in which pets mattered for MM:
Expansions in which pet was just utility/nuisance for MM:
Expansions with optional Lone Wolf as the optimal build for MM:
Expansions with Lone Wolf being obligatory:
Expansion where Lone Wolf wasn’t optimal: none.
Hunters have wanted to be petless since freaking vanilla…
Edit: obviously not all but its not a new request.
Thank you, I knew they were in the patch notes somewhere but was having hell trying to find where on mobile lol
They act like wanting to play the ranger archetype hasn’t been a thing requested since WoW released lmao.
Removing the pet from Marksmanship is a step in the wrong direction in regard to player customization and expression. The fact that the only playerbase population that matters to people like you (and a few others here) is that of the best of the best meta player really highlights why this game is becoming more and more stale.
Overbalancing and over perfecting each class or ability in such a hermetically optimized way is the best way to optimize fun and flavor out of the game. It’s really sad that the only opinions that some people care about are the ones from the top mythic parsing performers in this game, rather than those that might play in a more casual RPG-like fashion. These players are pointed and laughed at like they’re the untouchables. Be aware the casual playerbase of this game is what keeps it afloat. The 1% top dog raider and mythic+ players are a much lower portion of the game.
And have been able to be since Legion at the earliest, briefly in MoP too but everyone kinda hated a lot of those changes. Like they did in Legion. Which led us right back to having the choice with MM’s Lone Wolf. They should be improving that without removing the choice in the matter for players.
Again I also point out they can in fact do so the same way they do Intimidation rather than adding in some random eagle.
I play MM frequently and almost always have a pet out for the help it provides with keeping the attention of mobs, among other things. I don’t do high level content or M+, I don’t need that extra bit of dps from Lone Wolf. I am a Hunter, I want the ability to use on the many pets I’ve collected over the years.
I find the generalised quoting of figures like that without any facts to back it to be rather frustrating.
No one show this man the armory break down of people taking lone wolf…
