They could postpone it. Delay it. Choose another route.
They spent time on it, but it wouldn’t be the first thing that has ever gotten delayed as they attempt something else or as other things arise they feel they can’t fix until a later date so instead of pushing it out as it currently is they’re waiting until its more polished. It also wouldn’t even be the first thing they put out there as a thing, and then scrapped it.
With the short PTR cycle we have coming up, and knowing that the QA department at Blizzard is just a ghost of its former self, I could very well see this being postponed or delayed if things arise between now and launch on Live servers.
Not that it has anything to do with Hunters, or the MM spec, But part of me wonders if this upcoming PTR will even let players go to the new zone, or even if we can go to the new zone how much of it is going to be locked behind the secret door as to not spoil events, but also remain untested in a wider format.
I do appreciate the secrets behind the lore and/or events of a patch, but I just wish they could have a better testing apparatus for those things so we’re not experiencing game breaking bugs or features that don’t feel fun or nice when first encountering them spoiling the mood of the conent

What reason would they have to do that after they already announced it in a few places. And the extent of the update.
The chances of them back tracking it at this stage is astronomically low.

A myriad of things could occur between now and live causing them to delay or postpone it.
A game breaking bug might occur when doing certain things that they can’t fix in time. They could attempt fixes during the PTR that could potentially do that too. They could also already be looking into other formats for the Eagle.
We just don’t know until we know. They posted their initial proposed changes. It could very well be the same on the PTR when it launches, things could have changed, it might not even exist. Again, won’t know until we know.
Historically they have advertised things within the game that never make it. Heck, we were told that we’d be getting a brand new follower every season in the advertisements, the details about TWW, and it wasn’t until very recently that they scrapped that for the ease of just keeping Bronzebeard.

Blizzard themselves called Lone Wolf and pet-swapping “a friction point” which indicates they have the data backing it up. If you want to argue against it, e-mail Ion.
Literally no one is saying having to summon a pet to lust isn’t a problem.
What’s being said is the solution isn’t to delete MM ability to summon a pet at all.

Blizzard themselves, in that same post, also stated that MM Hunters have stood apart from the other specs in the fact they did not utilize a pet.
So they’re currently posted unique way of giving the MM spec a pet was to remove their traditional Pets, and give them a Procced ability like “Murder of Crows” but more passively given.
Which is where my point of contention arises. They openly state MM should have a pet, and are being given one that MM Hunters will use. But instead of allowing MM hunters to use their pets they’ve had for years, or the Pets they potentially got while leveling, they get this generic Eagle #7 that won’t even appear but as a random proc. Much like the murder that occurred to the Mages Water Elemental. Now instead of standing apart because of the LW ability in regards to pets… MM will stand apart because of the non-existent existent Procc’d Eagle pet.
I 100% believe Blizzard could come up with a better way for MM Hunters to have the pets they should have and have had for the past 20 years.
And given that Blizzard has outright stated the requirement that MM will have a Pet. Mayhaps the best option for players who do wish to explore the fantasy of being a Ranger that does not have a pet, that a new class be made to fit that fantasy. Be it a Tinker Class that has a Ranger Spec, or A Ranger class.

They’re not just doing that because of Lust though. They want MM to have a different class fantasy overall, much like they did with Survival going into Legion.
The folks who want the solo pet fantasy will still be able to get that via BM.
But only by playing in a completely different way from MM.
