Shush don’t check the data from the last few weeks. MM has top AoE damage and 2nd top single target on warcraft logs…they are stealth nerfing MM and want us to fight about pets instead…
No it isn’t a sane answer. No one gets it is sad. It’s like were supposed to be happy they are ruining MM and taking player choices away. And tell us to play another spec or reroll another class.
The best part about that “answer” is if used in reverse… They’d say the same thing in return.
“Why should I have to play another spec?”
If the answer is the same to both sides, it’s not a valid counterpoint or option. As the person stating it should already be able to see “Yeah… We should probably come a middle ground here.”
They took away the pet once, in BfA alpha, and returned before that expansion’s Launch it under request so MM could better quest and solo things. In other words, you never experienced petless MM (I was under impression that MM was petless in Legion, but it’s just because I talented into it for the whole expansion).
Lone Wolf has been the favored gameplay since it was introduced. What we are seeing now is Blizzard finally embracing that direction.
Hopefully they’ll give you a way to solo things, but don’t pretend like Blizzard ever regretted introducing Lone Wolf.
Lol, damn I didn’t know I had posted enough in this thread to have my pic show up like that.
Lol, top 2 posters (me included) are 18% of the posts and are in favor of the change.
I also remember that my first post was when this thread already had like 700 posts, so I’ve done around 10% of the posts after that.
All this fuss because Marksman is finally getting the rework it needs. I think the funniest part in all of this is most people will still go with beastmaster so they can have two pets.
Pointing out how pointless they are and how much friction they cause with the spec and with players is “forcing” people huh?
Yet another person who wants to treat the forums like an echo chamber.
I don’t think you know what entitlement means and are completely twisting my intentions to make me a villain lol.
Citation needed of me wanting to punish people.
You are literally talking out of your rear with all these accusations.
And I would notice because I read patch notes and also fully intend on swapping to mm once this goes live.
And spoiler, even more will be happy with this change.
And I already addressed this too.
Many hunters play mm to NOT have a pet.
And they are adding the utility to the hunter… while removing the pets lol.
If you remove all the utility they give, that makes them even more worthless for mm than they are now.
Because you know how balancing works right.
Pets do damage.
If you remove utility and leave pets in. Then mm with pets would do more damage than not. Causing an unfair… ding ding… balance.
Then if you keep lone wolf in, people will qq that having their pets out means less damage.
And just keeping a thing in just to keep it isn’t a good enough reason in my book. It has to have a purpose.
Removing what little utility they give mm makes them spec fluff that has even more of a reason to get pruned.
You don’t play a warlock and it shows.
Each pet has different utility. Void = defensives. Hound = interrupt. Imp = purge.
Hound is using more because…ding ding interrupts are important.
Mm pets just hold threat. They don’t offer the same utility. Your comparison is dishonest.
It doesn’t because surv and bm exist as a choice for pets.
You don’t see unholy or blood dks complaining that they can’t use pets.
You were in the minority.
You can’t without causing balancing problems.
Then why not just remove them? The minority that enjoy them aren’t the focus.
Thats just how things work. If more people wanting them to stay, blizz would do something about it.
Thank you. 100% on both points.
Its funny because I’ve seen way more complaining about the eagle than pets being gone.
One of us one of us!
Dont worry i am there too lol.
If it makes you feel better, the top 18 posters are 1700 of the 2600 posts
Favored by who? Where are people getting these magical player numbers? Show me the source of everyone wanting this change.
From every guide for any PvE activity that requires more than one person since WoD.
Destruction Warlocks could loose demons. They add little to them, and what they give could be added back into other abilities. A Warlock that just a fel caster without having micro management would be nice.
Destruction Warlocks have a talent for just that, it’s called Grimoire of Sacrifice. I think Affliction also had it at some point but I don’t know if they still do. The ability requires Warlocks to still summon a demon, but then sacrifice it to gain extra damage and the demon’s main ability for 60 minutes. This was easier to implement for Warlocks because their pets are way more limited in functionality than Hunter pets.
Edit: Oh, and Grimoire of Sacrifice was introduced in MoP, before Lone Wolf in WoD. It was kinda the blueprint for Lone Wolf, which is why they sound so similar. The thing is that Lone Wolf never bothered to give petless Hunters a full kit around being petless, which is why we reached this point in which Blizzard wants again to get rid of the pet.
If they would have just went with letting us have our felhunters spell lock spell left in our general Warlock talent tree demons would be nothing except a bit of extra damage and cosmetic but they backtracked on that before all the new talent trees went live which even now totally sucks.
It works with the feel of the class, but requires that you still need to summon them first. Destruction just should go completely petless. The main demon I used was the Voidwalker just for WQ, but otherwise they could be just temp summons.
Most of what a demon offers could just be baked in with another spell. Demons are just for utility on Destruction with the damage coming from the player.
They are looking for actual numbers vs all the actual guides and info out there that supports this lol.
And because the numbers don’t exist, they feel their arguement has a leg to stand on.
Scrolling through player profiles, raiderio. Inspecting random mm hunters ingame. Or just looking at literally every guide that isn’t solo play.
But if they acknowledged any of that, it would blow up their arguement and flip the narrative that the majority don’t want into… surprise. Most mm hunters have been waiting for this.
Sad part is, most aren’t as happy as they could be. Why? The eagle. Which I completely agree with. But for all we know, the eagle could be a nonissue once we see how it actually functions.
I play an MM hunter, I have a pet that I use a LOT. I mostly solo and would be VERY unhappy to have it removed. Removing the hunter pet would make them just another ranged DPS class, like mages and elemental shamans. Except they would have a bit better armor, instead of an energy shield, and use traps for kiting things instead of frost nova.
Hunter pets are NOT just cosmetic. They make the class a different class. It plays different from a mage now, but if you remove pets it will remove a lot of texture from the game.
But if Siren Isle has taught us anything, it’s that smooth flavorless content is cheaper to mass produce. THAT is why they are doing this. They could just add a new hunter spec that has no pet. Then all the number crunchers could switch to that. But that would cost slightly more to support because they would need to come up with new talents while supporting the old ones.
Yes, and it’s funny that only us need numbers to prove anything, they don’t.
I think the eagle is a cool compromise. It’s not a real pet following us and attacking enemies, I feel it will be a lot like petless Intimidation, which currently summons a random beast. The beast appears next to the target (not the hunter), stuns the target, then disappears. Sometimes it’s a freaking Devilsaur! And yet, I barely notice it amid the chaos. All that matters is the target getting stunned.
I think the eagle will be just like that: you call Roar of Sacrifice, the eagle follows the target during the duration, then disappears. You use Master’s Call, the eagle follows the target for a while, then disappears. Or maybe it does not even endure the full duration, it may appear, cast the spell, and go away.
Particularly, I loved the idea. Snipers have spotters to help them aim, so having a “Spotter Eagle” fits so nicely. And, between us, I always loved eagle pet. Back when pet specs could be changed (which will make a return next patch!), I often had 3 eagles, one for each spec. When I played (melee) Survival, I’d call an eagle to fight by my side, then when I went MM (Lone Wolf), my fantasy was that the eagle was following me high up in the skies. So, can you imagine how perfect this update felt to me? Lol.
I hope we get options to customize the eagle. Pick up the skin, or change the species to other elligible flying models. Owls, bats, parrots, albatrosses, vultures, falcons, undead birds, mechanical birds… options for everyone!
Except they would be the only agil ranged petless spec in-game.
Removing pets from mm, they would hardly be noticed overall.
They are a net negative in damage. They don’t participate in combat other than holding threat or the rare hero.
Which makes them almost entirely cosmetic, especially in any kind of group content.
And it plays exactly how the frost elemental did prior to its removal. Almost all utility and benefit from having it is gone.
Why reinvent the wheel when mm plays exactly like what the 4th spec would play, just no pet.
And if you had read any patch notes aside from “pet removal”, you’d see there is a lot of effort being applied.
So your “flavorless, mass produced” comment is unfounded.
