Asmonbald is dumb. But Blizzard could have and should have ignored the people who used the campaign as an excuse to argue for /spit being removed.
Most of the comments I saw weren’t from people who were actually /spit on in TBC classic but from retail players crying about it existing as an emote at all.
It’s more social engineering how much guild leaders have control over you to do whatever they want so you can get shiny pixels.
Most people are, even though they do it all the time.

They weren’t here. Hyperbole rules, here, it would have been “ban these people” not “take away their preferred method of harassment.”
There is the Milgram experiments on that front.
They were all over WoW twitter and reddit while it was happening. Blizzard didn’t remove /spit randomly on their own. People took the opportunity of what Asmongold did to get it removed.
A quick Google search doesn’t suggest Reddit has a unanimous opinion of /spit.

In a sense, they did get ignored. Blizzard did not make the changes they wanted.
What blizzard did do, is make a change to try and prevent them from harassing other users.
WoW’s rated T for Everyone, didn’t you know? It was never a ‘mature’ game, but it’s dialed back so many of the themes it used to have so far that it’s hard to believe it’s still a game rated for adolescents. The T rating must cover quite a wide range indeed.
