I regret that I have but one to give to this thread. I still have zero desire to play TBC but that doesn’t mean it, and WotLK, shouldn’t continue to exist. Era servers should stick around for the folks who want it. The hardcore challenge showed us that interest in any given expansion can renew at the drop of a hat.
Even a fresh server where people could roll on (ie, no clone) would make a lot of folks happy. Don’t let these expansions die off… unless you (Blizzard) want to officially endorse private servers so people can just play them.
I’ve mentioned this in another thread (or maybe this one, I lose track), but there’s opportunity for licensing here. You can let 3rd parties host their own servers using official APIs and charge a subscription fee that Blizzard takes a 30% cut of.
I think there would be a lot of players that would love to play an Era BC and Wrath and when Blizzard launched vanilla classic in 2019 and then we got BC I know so many were disappointed that we didn’t get an Era for BC when it ended. The same thing will happen with Wrath. Those versions of the game are the classic version of wow and should have their own Era servers and be preserved as many would love to go back to them.
I can’t help but feel the frustration for you folks wanting TBC, and soon to be WotLK, but it’s been years now with no word from Blizzard. It seems like a huge market to leave behind, especially with how popular Classic has been as a whole, but it is what it is.
I think at this point the best thing you can do is to cancel your subscription, tell Blizzard why, and then go find a private server to make popular. Just as it did last time, I suspect that is the only thing that will spur Blizzard into action here.
It’s a shame but that seems to be how it is. As always though, good luck to you folks!!
What interest? A thread that in eight months has managed to amass an astounding 129 posts (including this one)? A tenth of these were posted by you alone.
If TBC Classic was as popular as its handful of fans believe, Blizzard would not have shut those servers down when they launched WotLK Classic. If that many people were truly into it, those servers would still be live.
Blizzard saw the decline in Classic Era after TBC launched. Why would they create another set of dead servers when the fad momentum was WotLK and continuing the classic nostalgia?
The present situation is now entirely different. Many of the players that loved the classic content of WoW will probably be skipping Cata. So just like in the original Cata release, there will likely be a drop in “classic” players over the next year. Instead of saying goodbye to those players, Blizzard can recreate [permanent] TBC and WotLK servers and keep those players happy in the Blizzard ecosystem.
‘Those players’ don’t exist. If they did, Blizz would not have shut down the TBC servers. Nobody is clamoring for their return. It’s literally just you.
We all appreciate that! It would be nice to go back and replay BC especially but even Wrath. People are going to start wanting both of those versions of the game eventually and having one server open would be perfect.
Imagine thinking Blizzard is on a budget now being owned by Microsoft. If Phil Spencer came down and said give the players more options, these devs would jump and do it or risk being fired. Phil Spencer is huge advocate on more options, why did Warcraft 1 and 2 become available to play after the final purchase? Phil Spencer wants more for gamers.
Blizzard employees better start getting use to that idea they may need to work more even if they think cloning is a chore because if its an option to make more money you better believe the higher execs don’t give a damn what their employees think is a tough process or not. They can get fired and replaced by those who will.
They need ERA, TBC and WOTLK servers with cloning services between them so everyone wins. Its as simple as that. Less servers with each, more options for gamers.
